ANDROID could be the salvation... if Nokia wakes up in time!! People look for apps, not Windows!
Windows Phone = the same desktop crapware in phone!
The Taloussanomat article is based on IDC numbers that are seriously flawed, for example HTC would have a 0% market share in Finland, which simply is not true. The actual market share for HTC is around 3-4%. Nokia most likely still has a market share of 40-45% in smartphones in Finland. IDC gives Sony-Ericcson a market share of 11% when the actual figure is around 5-8%. GSMArena's article is telling about Lumia 800 sales in Finland when it is not even yet for sale there. Nokia N9 is one of the best selling smartphones in Finland, but it is not mentioned in the article at all.
The bottom line here, is that the Lumia phones, thus far, have sold about 50% of what was hoped for, at this point! Nokia have chosen the wrong O/S to go with and are now paying the price. While everyone else is going with flagship devices that have 4 inch and upwards screens they are still messisng around with 3.7 to 3.9. As for Quad cores forget it! They will be relegated to cheap phones for the 3rd world only by then!
Whilst mentioning MS Phone, I suspect I can see what MS are doing here. They will insist that current phones only have single core processors only, as WP7 cannot support mutli core only currently, for them to then specify WP8 requires a minimum of dual core to work. Thus forcing customers to upgrade to get WP8 and get them out of having to provide updates! That's if it doesn't have 5 buttons intead of 3 on the front of the phone, as with the HD2, of course!!!
nokia never survives......
nokia should focus more on symbian and windows smartphone and also stop repeting designs
Whats wrong nokia is that they made a beautiful winmo but there is front camera.skype uain now..seriously,microsoft acquired skype yet nokia forget to include front camera in nokia lumia line up
It's wise for Mr Elop to be an owner of multiple platforms instead of worshipping microsoft alone.
Just watch ....how Samsung is climbing from a mere 3% to 25% share holders within 12 months periods with its 3 to 5 platforms OS today.
Anonymous, 04 Dec 2011Multi color toys????!!!! You certainly have no vision for technical design! You can't serious... moreSo answer this . . . Why aren't more Nokias being sold?
simple user, 05 Dec 2011and by the way according scientists if there was not global cataclysm 65 million years ago cau... moreI like your thinking but remember what matters is where the competition is right now. The Lumia, seriously speaking,is more or less a 2012 device, but put in war with say, the original Galaxy S or better still the humble Wave S8500, all sporting 2010 tech,it will surrender in defeat in almost all battles. The Lumia is a great device, but there are by far better ones out there.Nokia did not aim at being the best with the Lumia as with the N8; and that's their greatest sin.The Lumia is just a quick-fix solution to a deep-rooted problem. Just how do they unleash a 1.4GHz clocked device when the competition is almost going quad-core? Nokia, learn the basics in business, you either be the best or be the rest.PERIOD.
and by the way according scientists if there was not global cataclysm 65 million years ago causing dynosaurs extinction there would be no mamals, hence humans now. So do not worry - from Nokia ashes something good will be born.
Anonymous, 05 Dec 2011The worst sin ever committed by Nokia was going Windows Phone way.I'd rather they just stuck w... moretrouble is that Intel "scrapped" their ARM processors (Xscale family) and went Atom-line way. Meego (actually Moblin) was created to advertise that hardware platform. However Intel to this date can not provide competition viable product, hence they dropped software part altogether. Aparently it was Nokia responsible for OS and applications. It is quite probable Intel had agreement with Nokia for some chips to be purchased and put into mobile phones/tablets, and because of Intel failure Nokia abandoned ship.
Frankly it was always cheaper to buy product instead of produce it - et voila - we met Nokia+MS. Elop did not put fire on.. he is just organising personnel evacuation instead of fire extinguishing.
...funny thing is, if Nokia ever ditches Microsoft (if they even still can) then goes on to embrace Android to great success, I predict they will declare themselves "greatly surprised" by that success.
...morons.
One word "Android" no windows
Nokia must recöntinue with meego and maemo os. What a os in n900 was. Even n9 is child to its multitasking and webbrowser. Definetly nokia should ditch winmo and continue with new symbian and maemo-meego os...that is the hard truth.
The worst sin ever committed by Nokia was going Windows Phone way.I'd rather they just stuck with Symbian and throw all their weight to improving the user experience and multi-core processing.Or better still embrace MeeGo, and with Intel being a partner, I can't really fathom the powerful mobile processors and chips they could have churned. But that was then, and Elop had his sleeves rolled to force Mangoes (pun intended)down the throats of Nokia and Symbian loyals. What a pity!
>it does indicate that the change was necessary
No it doesn't, it indicates people won't buy devices with no future.
Everyone knew this would happen when Elop announced they would drop Symbian, and lets not forget that the "support till 2014" promise only came ~2 months later. Not to mention that Symbian Development has been outsourced.
AnonD-1385, 04 Dec 2011I'm a huge Nokia fan.
I have had a total of 9 Cellular phones...7 of them being Nokia. Nok... morehey. i must say, nokia speaker is pretty decent, your missing your phone calls maybe your phone is not with you, your phone should always be with you thats why its called "mobile" phone.
UNLESS you wanted to have a phone that can run to you when someone is calling or texting. make sense?
I believe Nokia is in the doldrums and has to be rationalized fast before further damage. I used to like the brand but I have since moved to Alcatel.
Totally agreed persons who said Win os is not the best os, ya Nokia going on wrong way specially stephen elop, not happy from Nokia this time, i m a huge fan of Nokia but in these days Nokia doing mistakes and mistakes. All new Handset are new for Nokia but old for users, specially prices are high too. 700, 701, 800 not deserve too much rice tag. if they doing this again and again after some time they will finish from the market.
In past Nokia launched C7, C6-01, C6-00, all sets have issues, they relaunched C7 in name of 701 but whole body are same, camera ya camera, Nokia was known for cam but this time they using shit cam with fixed focus. if they launch C6-00 same as C7 it will be much accepted.
