Most of the groundshakers of this world use Vertu and not Iphone or SG2....! To make a serious proffit Vertu doesn't need to sell more than 2-3 thousand phones a year, considering that the cheapest one is around 5000€!.....There are enought rich people in the world who can afford to buy a Vertu!....
The 8800 series is also a niche product, but for a "poorer" audience who can "only" afford to pay 1000€ for a mobile.....The 8800 series brought Nokia enought proffit, considering they refreshed the 8800 line-up every year with a new handset that used even more exotic materials!...If 8910 and 8800 would have been failures, would Nokia have continued with Sirocco,Arte,Sapphire,Carbon and Gold arte....Even today enought people are using these phones and online for a SH unit their price is around 200-300€ equal to a SH unit of Galaxy S,Arc or Desire!....Strange or not, some people will always be interested in these types of phones!.....

Nokia is selling Vertu because they are bleeding money and they need money right now to stay from going bankrupt.

        Nokia is pathetic and desperate.

Take a look at the Lumia 800. Nokia is arrogant enough to sell that junk like it's a high end smartphone while packing mid end technology. They are ripping people off.

Anonymous, 08 Dec 2011There is more profit to be had from one Vertu phone than from several hundred N8's. Fact.True. But if it's really that profitable then why is Nokia trying to get rid of it? Ask yourself that question.

The truth is, Nokia sees its Vertu branch as more of a liability or a burden and that's why they are selling it.

If you're a farmer and you're making money from your field, would you sell your field? NO.
If your field is not making enough money to balance things out, would you sell it? YES.

Vertu is making money but Nokia, as a whole company is not making enough money to make ends meet. That's why its selling Vertu.

AnonD-1024, 08 Dec 2011well it's not gonna happen... things like bankrupcy is not an option for giants like nokia ..... moreBankruptcy is quite possible if Elop sells Vertu, NSN and all the other bits and pieces until only the core smartphone business remains.

He already mentioned closing factories and outsourcing assembly.

Next up might be a sale of the smartphone division to MS.

in the time when first iphone was launched and google presented first android, nokia was selling the stupid mobile arte and scirocco with 800-1000 euros. from a long time it was very clear that luxury mobiles with no functions will not work in the apple and android world. but nokia wait 5 long years to wake up. they are so stupid in their proud !! they deserve to die. all the potential customers of ex-8 series of nokia have iphone for 5 years and also vertu users selled their stupid vertus to buy iphones personalized with swarowsky or diamonds

its vertu that they should keep and sell the rest.
not that vertu is in anyway better than their other phones but its at least making profits unlike their other devices.
