At least SE try it and keep the promise with all their Xperia 2011 model. While in Samsung case even when they put it in Ads my Galaxy 9 is a living proof of broken promise they made.

At least they're trying to soften us up before the inevitable slip in release date from January to whenever

Why not use stock ICS? It would be easier...

Apparently, releasing an OS is difficult. Thanks for the info. Sony should look at others or call Apple/Samsung for some help.

Tizen Takeover, 08 Dec 2011Kinda obvious that it is hard to update to ICS seeing as how it is the first real OS Makeover ... moreThe most time consuming part is the certification portion. NOT the custom mod.

It would be easier and more feasable for sony to just drop andriod updates for devices lower than the Xperia arc ( stop the update at 2.3.6 ) and make a new phone for 4.0

sounds like a lot of hard work, whats wrong with 2 tin cans and a long piece of string? that worked well for generations and only needed upgrading when the string snapped or the tins rusted

uncle bob, 08 Dec 2011just root and flash custom ics rom The problem with custom ROMs is that they are often not well tested and can be buggy. SE made a point in their post to point out how much effort they put into testing.

phil, 08 Dec 2011so just a buy a phone with ICS instead of waiting for the update? There only is ONE phone available with ICS on it and IMO it's a crappy brute.

Google's idea of releasing preferential "Nexus" devices is absurd and completely against the spirit of open source development. It's ridiculous that SE only got access to the ICS source code in November after the Nexus was released. All partners should get equal access to the Google development databases as new versions of Android are being developed.

I think 'honesty is the best policy' really sticks out here with SE. Well done to them for an update on the update.

Kinda obvious that it is hard to update to ICS seeing as how it is the first real OS Makeover for Android. Then comes the issue of slapping that custom UI on top of it. I bet it'd be easier if you slapped vanilla ICS on there Sony...
