LG using old stock to get more profit, smart, if people buy without knowing or aren't tech enthustiasts.
Same thing happened with the LG G6 carrying the same snapdragon 821 despite every manufacter incorporated the snapdragon 835.
That made me chose the oneplus 5T over the G6.
And even tho the LG v30 was on my buying list, the steep price here in portugal of 899 euros was an insult to my wallet, for that money i could have gotten any true flagship devices like a huawei P20 Pro, samsung s8+ back in the day.
But what i wanted was something cheaper and better(CPU performance), and that's why i choose the oneplus 5T.
Lol at the ignoramus berating the choice of soc.
The 821 is superior to the 660 in everyway, including GPU performance. It may be two years old but it still is a superior performer compared to current midrangers.
Better cpu, gpu, more l1 and l2 cache, wider memory bus and better memory controller. 'Old' is perfectly good.
The sheer number of clueless posters here is illuminating...
LG slowly becoming HTC. Using outdated chipset in new phones does not make any sense. Looks like LG will be new HTC, once HTC will die off. LG will have same destiny I asume.
Shanti Dope, 06 Jan 2019I guess not many people do this because then it would make their old flagships completely obso... moreYes, sadly it always the business as their priority. I understand it could cannibalized their yesteryear flagship sales. If only some brand out there who dont care care about flagship and just focus on midrange with these old flagship chipsets that would be great. Like a subbrand maybe. Or is there any dying brand willing to do this? Hahaha. Im looking at you htc n bb.
Tiny camera sensors and old SoC at current price, that's all. Their midrange price is the flagship one from others with all better.
Copy the cat, 05 Jan 2019People still wanna buying Lg branded product. So stop being haters and got jealous. LolI'm sure you didn't own an LG G4 the replacement phones failed as well until warranty went out, I'd say is a C-grade manufacturer, their TVs pop in large numbers, never getting anything from them ever.
Luxor, 05 Jan 2019I love how LG uses old flagship chipset and sell it as midranger. Hope more company do this. S... moreI guess not many people do this because then it would make their old flagships completely obsolete in just 2 years.
There's a reason why Qualcomm doesn't make their upper mid range SoCs as powerful as many 2-year old flagship SoCs, such as the SD710, which still loses to SD820 when it comes to graphics performance (more beneficial for gaming).
Also, mid rangers are always aimed at better efficiency compared to flagships, which is why manufacturers would still use the SD625 instead of the SD810.
Don't get me wrong, this is a fantastic idea and I would also love to enforce this strategy, but for the manufacturers, this would be a disaster and meaningless decision.
Luxor, 05 Jan 2019I love how LG uses old flagship chipset and sell it as midranger. Hope more company do this. S... moreTrue, what they're doing now is almost the same as those people buying last year's high-end flagship instead of a mid-end smartphone, you're getting some flagship-grade stuff at a cheaper price
PiT, 05 Jan 2019Snapdragon 821? Boahahaha another fail Depends... Most of the games will be a breeze and it supports most of the advanced stuff. We don't really need great advancements in chipsets, it is good enough already. We need better baterie s and better software updates.
alnherco, 05 Jan 2019I still prefer to get a flagship on the contract than buying a midranger in cashThat is your choice 🙂🙂🙂
I prefer to buy last year flagship on deal and spend minimum on pay as you go. I spend max £400 on mobile phone bills including phone a year
ZloiYuri, 05 Jan 2019Who still buying these craphones? LG is B-grade manufacturer in questions of quality, support ... morePeople still wanna buying Lg branded product. So stop being haters and got jealous. Lol
Dan, 05 Jan 2019Yeah it's a crazy deal. I'm not a big fan of the Firedragon 821, but can certainly overlook it... moreExactly. Most games would still run on it, sound would be amazing, screen is better than my XR, and all for a price under 200
Walter C. Dornez, 05 Jan 2019Holy crap. That's a very solid device for that priceYeah it's a crazy deal. I'm not a big fan of the Firedragon 821, but can certainly overlook its faults since the rest of the phone are made of bona fide flagship-level hardware.
I still prefer to get a flagship on the contract than buying a midranger in cash
Arvind7955, 05 Jan 2019XperiaYeah thnx, so far the only one without the notch or a punch hole and for godsake no edge screen
ZTE has been doing this with the Axon 7s Open Edition in China, using SD821. It's arguably the best deal in the price segment right now.
5.5 inch 1440p AMOLED, 16:9 aspect ratio
Snapdragon 821, 4+128GB
Dual front firing speakers with HiFi chip
3400mAh with QC3.0
All this for 1148 yuan (US $167).
Basically it has the best screen, sound quality and most amount of storage at the price point, and has NFC to boot.
More phones like this one with 'outdated' hardware would be nice.
Luxor, 05 Jan 2019I love how LG uses old flagship chipset and sell it as midranger. Hope more company do this. S... moreAgreed, this would open up some serious competition and allow OEMs to clear out unsold inventory of expensive chips.
