They had... moreGuess what, Android was started by Andy Rubin who worked for Apple as a low level engineer, with the same people who developed this patent at the same time as they were developing it.
Then surprise, surprise it shows up in Android, just like the Java stuff stolen from Oracle and the stuff stolen from Microsoft that all the Android phone makers have to pay licenses for.
It's a miracle if you can find a part of Android that wasn't stolen, Ice Cream Sandwich even steals from Nokia, Meego & Meamo.

Apple did not innovate this feature, I bet they just patented an age old idea cos I have a Nokia 'oldschool' which can do this, think its de first Nokia colored screens. Apple hates de fact that new world order is here thanks to Android ppl will buy phones and decide which OS they prefer. my gf and dad both HAD iphone4s, Dads now got a Razr and gf now gt a Monte Carlo (yuck don't ask me why), she sold her iPhone for 400 pounds do I have to repeat that. anyways my point is none of de the above miss their iPhone. come on Apple join de revolution and make IOS open cos till then yu cant really fight Android cos it will just keep transforming to something yu will always hate.

My wife has a HTC Desire and I was planning to replace it with an iPhone but this news has changed my mind. Her iPod nano will be replaced by something from Sony or Creative as well.
I had also toyed with the idea of buying a MacBook Pro to replace my aging ThinkPad. Again no longer. Looks like Dell or Lenovo will get an order soon.
Vote with your dollars, it is the only way that Apple will get the message.

Instead of fighting cases with the Google & trying to put the Android Phones down Apple should Concentrate on making better phones which are more user Friendly like the Androids.I think Apple phones are over priced for Nothing as half the things that you can do on an Android Phone,you cant do on the iPhone.

Apple can get stuffed, my windows mobile running Samsung Omnia also had this feature, all done on a mobile OS that pre-dates iOS

Whats happening?? These features are already present back in early years of NON-TOUCH SCREEN phones. Like the phone numbers, you can dial or save. Like the URLs, you can go directly to the site. Those where the days when GPRS is the hill of mobile internet when Apple is not even offering phones.

Those patent battles are really killing innovation.
The human knowledge is built up and passed on generation after generation. This help to grow our "human knowledge". Imagine if Apple was now banned because they use a keyboard,a speaker, a screen, an antenna and well english language...
I understand people have the right to make money out of research & inventions. But now it turn out ridiculous.. this is pure greed & market protectionism!
