Yeah, what about Galaxy W? It is so affordable phone subsidized by my operator, but I am hesitating to buy it because I am not sure if it will get ICS. And I am afraid I will miss it if I wait too long.... people are byuing them really quick.

Samsung is the worst when it comes to updates. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 on firmware v2.3.3 and i am in INDIA and when connected to kies it says it's the latest firmware.

Damn customizations! Who needs Touchwiz? When do Hardwaremanufacturer understand that customers don't care for their unnecessary "extensions" but for an secure and up to date system!

Samsung is only good for hardware. They have no common sense in the software. I moved from iphone4 to Galaxy s2 and it's quite nice except the software inside...Also, it feels like a disposable product after 5months...unlike Apple...But it's not too bad. I kind of expected it anyway. I like the big screen though..

Samsung does this every year. People should get used to it and buy new phone every time.

AnonD-9023, 25 Dec 2011There is difference between what u say and what i say. u are right 2.1 is good and 2.2 too.... moreUnfortunately, people think of XDA a place for geeks and rocket sciences... They have good instructions for not-so-tech-savvy users and the risk to really "brick" your phone is quite slim if they would just read. Consumers purchase an open source OS with options to customize on their own but don't choose to because they think it's too difficult. It's bad on Samsung for not releasing an official ICS updates to last year flagships but users should also realize they chose an open source OS and use the benefits that come with it.

Samsung has really good hardware but since the day one their user interface sucks big time be it s2 or their basic phones five years ago , the touchwiz is just a lazy excuse for user interface compared to likes of HTC sense .they have a very lazy interface department. I had used galaxy Gio and now using desire s though both run android the interface gives a whole different experience on desire s

Samsung just lauched their Galaxy W in my country last month (November), since the ICS update list only include Galaxy R, S2 & Note, does that mean a 1 month old phone cost $300 will not get a single update.
What kind of business ethics is this ?
I am going for Sony for sure.

People are stupid when they get upset because your phone will not take the update of the ice cream sandwich ... that's why the phone is outdated? I'd rather have a pc with 2 gigs of ram to run windos xp perfectly than having the same pc with windows 7 64 bit running with lag ... i ask the users of 3.0G-nonsense ios5 to run well without any problem ...

AnonD-9023, 25 Dec 2011There is difference between what u say and what i say. u are right 2.1 is good and 2.2 too.... moreah well, i do totally agree with you but it is simply 50% or samsung's fault who put RFS Format to Galaxy S and 50% of Google's fault who made Android OS like that.

Apple is totally different with Android as Apple is the only one company uses iOS and they dont have to worry about Hardware that much but Android they do . So many companies such as HTC, samsung, LG and motorola makes Android phone with Different hardware specification.

if Google control Hardware of phones like what MS does for Windows Phone 7 . They will not have problem like this with Upgrading OS.

not only Samsung, when it comes to Android. all the manufacturer only update their android OS 2 - 3 times only.

therefore it is not only problem with Samsung Android phones.

i hate this things so i am using Nexus S as i do not have to worry about OS upgrade and i am totally happy with 1 yr old my Nexus S with official ICS.

u are right 2.1 is good and 2.2 too.

I can buy phone like Nexus One instead of buying SGS with more price because both stuck at 2.3 and also no support ofr ICS.

                                    Why buy flagship phone ?

if experia mini has no eligibility then its ok because its not a flagship phone and also cheaper price.

if samsung cant even support flagship phones then those flagship phones are nothing but bricks.

Take nexus S , its very good phone outperforms iPhone 4 because instead of hyping the phone they focused more on "usability" rather than "stupid+wierd" customization (unlike samsung fanboys who only care customizations and now rofl).

                                    usability is more important.

ICS has hardware acceleration which means phones lag lesser than b4.

So definitely that increases anyone's usability right ?

and it removes carrier IQ (because of injuctions etc.)
just like iOS 5 without IQ junk vs iOS 4 which had iq junk.

                                    U can get new apps.

Eric (aka google CEO) said in 6 months time developers get attracted towards ICS (due to less fragmentation-style of OS) and all write apps using ICS tools instead 2.1 tools.
Then what ? people who bought 2010 flagship phone (galaxy s) cant use those nice apps.

so definitely according to Eric , apple appstore is still the "place for better quality apps" .
So these 2 differences are enough to say Galaxy S users are bricked now and have to rely on xda to get their phones bricked or they are bricked anyway with laggy 2.3 OS.

And even after ICS comes out my 2.1 Xperia X10 Mini Pro will serve me very well without the update. In fact, it isn't even eligible for an upgrade, but it will still continue to be a great smartphone and not a brick.

                                      Is an iPhone3 a brick? I don't think so.

So when ICS update comes to ur phone , plz don't upgrade.

Use 2.1 Forever and never upgrade it to 4.0.

I forgot , ICS has hardware acceleration support for UI which means phone lags less during scrolling and also UI get little bit better.

there is no use of buying a phone (flagship phone if i am right like Galaxy S) and unable to get latest upgrade.........inspite of phones like Nexus getting same update (ofc i mentioned it due to stock android long b4).

So justify ur statement by not upgrading to 2.2 or 2.3 or 4.0 and i definitely agree with u.
