I don't think I'd ever buy another phone from Samsung, if they don't provide an ICS update for the Galaxy S.

Samsung guys need to go to a shrink! Within less than a week they said that Galaxy S wont be upgraded to ICS, that eventually will be upgrated and now that is going to get a "value" pack update! Is this a serious company or not?

I bought original galaxy i7500 and swore I will not buy Samsung phone again. Original galaxy was nice phone, with 8GB of storage included, which was rare thing for that time. But they screwed it up because of low RAM. So it was not officially updated beyond 1.5. DRAKAZ built custom rom for it based on 2.3 Gingerbread. But, a month ago I bought SGS II instead of HTC Sensation, I am not sorry for a second. That is a real beast.
I'm sorry they wil not release ICS for i9000, but that is older machine. But I do not understand why they will not release it for i9001 Plus, which is still available in shops? That device has same specs as "SE Xperia Arc S". If they do not release ICS update for it, that is a real "crime" and there cannot be any excuse for it.

It appears that the S will get ICS, but a stripped down version. They won't remove core framework stuff, just extra junk apps.

Samsung is thinking that we are little kids "We can not give you an Ice cream but you can eat this lollipop". Thanks for everything, but NO!!! Its time to switch to another more customer friendly brand.

So which is it?

"Update: msgfromside3, who speaks Korean, pointed out that the “Value Pack” is supposed to be ICS-based, but without certain features. So both Galaxy S and Tab will almost definitely get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, though it’s still unclear which features specifically will be removed.
The article also mentions that Samsung considered porting the full ICS plus TouchWiz without end-user support, but decided against it because of likely customer complaints in that case."

@sgs owner

How do you justify your comparison to Sony Ericsson and the fact they upgrade all their 2011 devices? The SGS is a mid-2010 phone ????

Yeah, but Samsung Galaxy S star with 2.1, have 2.2, and 2.3.4 and above. iPhone 3GS star with iOS 3, have 4 and 5. That's the difference? Is because this is a Samsung and not an Apple? GS have 2 major updates, and complete the 18 months update period like the Nexus One. Do you want more?

a value added pack to gingerbread isnt going to help people install apps requiring API introduced with ICE CREAM SANDWICH this is no solution to the strong customer demand for ics.

Only a proper ics build wit or without touchwiz whould provide the ics experience.
