apple and rim cannot tell argentina what to do but they can always complain to world trade organization or their government coz this is protectionism. what if the us gov't and the canadian gov't and maybe also china, where iphones and most rim products are made, retaliate and ban argentina goods. tit for tat!
Anonymous, 29 Dec 2011The west must falls first before it happened though. They wont die so easily.China hasn't even hit the economic curb yet and they are struggling to maintain control, villages are kicking the communists out, mass unrest.
omar mohamed, 29 Dec 2011I think apple will sue them,
and believe me apple will win :)LOL are you mad?
It's a country, Apple cannot tell a country what to do. Any country in thw world could refuse to sell a certain product if it wishes. *rollseyes*
I live in Argentina and can tell you the phones are NOT banned, actually they are subject to import restrictions. Sales of those phones are NOT RESTRICTED in any way, just not available. Also, if you buy an unlocked phone abroad there's no problem to activate it here.
İn Argentina, in Ushuaia The RİM has a factory producing the Blackberry since October
I think apple will sue them,
and believe me apple will win :)
Bravo Argentina...Kick their A##...It's not taking your money always, the country must have benefits too...

AbdMajeed, 29 Dec 2011Absolutely Brilliant.. sometime I feel as I want to throw my smartphone and buy a classic one.... moreI think they don't care if it's smartphone or not.
If you don't have any real sector investment that contributes to the country's prosperity (such as opening jobs for the peoples), then you're not welcomed.
Is this going to make a major dent in their sales? Blackberry maybe, but Apple?!
This is not true. I live in Argentina and I bought an iPhone Yesterday. Please, check the information before such kind of affirmation.
Samsung, Nokia and LG don´t have only "assemply" lines here, they don´t really manufacture a single thing here in Argentina. They don´t even assemble the boards for their phones.
Here in Argentina things are quite upsetting regarding cell phones and plans. Prices are crazy. Justo to give you an example: if you wish a Samsung Galaxy S II on a AR$ 200 plan (about US$ 46) you must pay AR$ 2500 (about US$ 580) for it !!!!!!!! Carriers get the phones at international prices and sell them to us at totally crazy amounts of money.
Absolutely Brilliant.. sometime I feel as I want to throw my smartphone and buy a classic one.. easy, light to carry, and no issue related security and looks nice..
i apreciate, argentian decision regarding their economy... through this decision they would boost their economy.... :)
Lol you guys are so gullible. This was just a hoax article, as it is their equivalent of a April's fools.
Yes all multi-national should be forced to do this. In this way new technology will be available to 3nd world countries & they can move up the ladder. Imported goods provide profits for native countries & spare parts producing countries. They can be provide local jobs (design, mfg, spare-parts) & benefit the local country. The profits from local economy should not be allowed to be sent out of the country but invested further into the economy.
hats off argentina great decision you made....
Good idea countrys before corporations. Way to go.
Nick, 28 Dec 2011Is not a "ban" for Apple and RIM, it's a block for ANY electronic imported devices. ... moreIts same thing block or ban so no matter Apple & BB is gone dude.............:-)
