Ppl saying " dumb Argentina government" are actually the dumb ones. What is wrong about trying to boost the local production? Forcing the companies to have factories in the country warrants job for the local ppl which translates in more revenues for the country instead of just revenues for the company... Besides this should also translates in lower prices... I'm from Venezuela and I wish something like this would be done here, where phones cost around 2~3 times the US price

ann, 29 Dec 2011I wish the same will happen here in the Philippines to help boost business. But UNFORTUNATELY,... moreThat wont be necessary. We Filipinos are very resilient race. We'll get by with what is available at the moment. And with the current govt fund, we all know it might be insufficient, but better tax collection and vanquishing corruption is what i believe to be the best agenda to prioritize. No huge fund, no additional tax, no programs, no prudent effort is enough to alleviate economic crisis, not until corruption is completely vanquished from all levels in the govt. And i believe this will apply to any government... just my two cents!

This is old news, the ban is active since mid-2011

But RIM is already assembling devices here, so the only one affected is the iPhone, in fact, it is impossible to officially buy an iphone, since then....only ones selling it are the ones in the "black" market

This just will make the Apple and Blackberry sales go like a rocket. History has proved that the prohibited things are the ones you want most. On the national "ebay", people will find a way to have an Iphone or a Blackberry, so this could be done to obtain a paralel dollar or something. It is curious because our president a few weeks ago, appeared on public holding very proud the "first" BB made here in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. And even the phones build here on Messi´s home, aren´t priced as local products, they cost the same as imported or higher. See this:
PS VITA will cost u$s 249 on USA, right? Here, i am sure i will pay like more than four Franklins...our economy system sucks.
Well...i hope this stupid ban finish soon.

seems it will happend to Indonesia too ( especially for Blackberry ), with a huge user of BB, RIM didnt build factory n server in Indonesia. and the government very serious ultimatum have been made for RIM.

It's true, its about Argentina vs. Brazil.

RIM maybe apply to the goverments rules but I do not have high hopes on Apple...

Simply because we're not a big sale point for Apple to make that move...

this notice is old.... the prohibition of importing cellphones was dictated a year ago, aproximately.

i hate the actual goverment of the country. they are destroying the economy, and the people that works, everything. revolution now!!!!!

The idea is not wrong, but not like this government did, the correct thing to do is to limit the importation, not banned all.

But UNFORTUNATELY, we are not far behind from the most expensive electricity in the world. If we are not the most expensive already. A lot of manufacturers transfered to another country already. (sigh)
