But my design requires the camera to be on the BEZEL ONLY, not adjacent to display... Let me explain.
I'll talk mathematically.
S10's main rear camera (12MP sensor with 1.4um pixels) is one of the few best around.
Phone thickness? Well, around 7.8mm (INCLUDING the around 2mm display!).
My design even excludes the display because its rotating towards rear or selfie, both sides, it can ONLY BE on a BEZEL, top or bottom bezel.
Otherwise, how will it work as a selfie cam, if its overshadowed by a display?
This means that using my design we can easily have a 1.55um 12MP camera and still use it for both selfie and main cam, because of additional thickness by not being behind the display.

Let's imagine the phone thickness is about 7mm ok (we add another 1 mm for camera bump) Now it is about 8mm and we go by 7.5(given we can house the rotating mechanism in less than half mm to the phone wall) but wait there is LCD/LED which might need up too 2mm which leave us with 6mm and then again we need to back by half mm which leave us with 5.5 mm for housing and sensor let say the company can build housing with 0.5 mm thickness at each side which uses total of 1 mm and leave us with 4.5 mm for sensor which is much less than ideal for what you want(if i find some spare time i'll make a 3D view of it so thing become much more clear!)

And motor would be below both sensor and lens, a very small motor, even a 0.1W brushless would do awesome.
And there's no need to make sensor smaller than earlier. Keep in mind that the rotation point would be in middle of sensor and lens. In other words, both sensor and lens would rotate on an imaginary axis which is in middle of both...
There's no question of space wastage overall. Now coming to thickness....
Keep in mind that cameras already come in a housing. Having a rotatable one inside the stationary one will increase thickness maybe by 1mm or so. That's all.
And you replace 2 cameras with one.. a mighty good tradeoff, if you consider that you spend lesser money, save more space, etc.

The rotating point should be exactly in the middle of the camera. Since motors have good torque, a very small motor would suffice.
You can have 4-5mm lens easily with a 7-8mm thickness (including protection glass).
We're already fitting good lenses, rotating won't make them bad. The motor would not be an obstruction at all.

todays phones are roughly 7 mm thin which in term of internal would give us a 5 mm or even less than that.
Good luck fitting any lens whit good optic ability and quality in this space!

Why does it sound more bulky to you? The way I see it, we're saving internal space as well as weight.
Many people had realized more pixels does not necessary mean better image. It is the censor size, lens capability and processing algorithm that are more important.

But if u forget about it for a moment and look at the megapixel count, don't u think that we've gone a bit too far? Sure, pixel binning does help in reducing noise, resulting in better low-light photos, but to squeeze that amount of megapixels in these small sensors? I'll just say nah man, that's definitely not the way to go
Imagine a Nokia 9 pureviev with 5x 192 Mpix lenses plus TOF camera and SD855 for lets say 700 bucks.
What about nokia n serious pure view in support 42mega pixel are nokia a 10years ahead of all technologies ..if nokia continues maybe today nokia support more than 500 mega pixel

Might be the 9 binned pixels, but one pixel being repurposed for misleading marketing such as Pro+ Photo Info that gives additional camera info for better pictures or whatever
But 192MP at 1/2" is just useless. No way around it. Ultra noisy yay
I have just wondered what can be acheived under the team of Damian Dinning, Juha Alakarhu and the rest of the nokia imaging team for 808.
