Anonymous, 21 Mar 2019So why is it that you are saying 65 mm(x4) is more compact than 69.9( s10e) when it's clearly... moreMy point wasn't that it's the smallest option out there, but that it's smaller than Most. So yes, the S10e is shorter, but its also wider so the overall difference in one handed usability is not very big

3000mAh battery of Samsung does not necessarily has same dimensions of a 3000mAh of LG. Nor same weight. Not all oled have same thickness, not all LCD have same thickness.
Camera: many sensors are different size, different number of lens elements, aperture size etc. You cant say the module of iphone and pixel have same size even when sensors have same size. Waterproofing is hardware, it takes some space. NFC , radio antenna, Qi coil , heat pipes etc ....
Someone from one phone maker told me the design is done around of the display to be used. Flat design is easier to fit all components.
Why do midranges usually have more battery than flagships? Because flagships are made to bring more money per unit sold.
Midranges have worse screen, mono audio, weaker cameras etc ...

Why tf would anyone buy a "compact" phone that you can't reach the top with one hand. IT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF A COMPACT PHONE.
Sony. Lemme level with you.
You don't need to have a compact at equal power to your flagship.
It doesn't need as much ram.
It doesn't need as powerful a chipset.
It doesn't need a crazy dense screen.
The fundamentals you need to sell these phones are:
1) A compact form factor (

The XZ1 Compact was the peak of compact Xperia phones: flagship performance, great battery life, headphone jack and of course a compact SCREEN that is reachable with just one thumb and no hand adjustments. The only shortcoming was the mediocre camera.
I was planning to wait for the next Sony compact but if these rumours are true, I will probably go with the Galaxy S10e. Sure, it's screen is bigger than I'd like, but it is comparable with this new "compact" Xperia (S10e screen is the same height, about 6mm wider).
With either Samsung's Good Lock NavStar plug-in or the One Handed Operation + app the S10e will probably provide the best one-handed experience in a flagship Android phone. Plus it has a headphone jack. And before anyone talks about how cheap wireless headphones are: it's not about cost. Its about convenience. I don't want yet another device with a battery that I have to monitor and keep charged for whenever I want to use it. I'd really like a sub 5" screen with flagship specs but it doesn't look like that's ever going to happen again.

That's compact? My Xperia Z5 is 146mm tall, and 149mm is now compact?
Sorry Sony, that's bull and you know it. You see the trend in the photo too. Larger and larger.. That's NOT compact!

Because they will be wasting money on the models that don't sell. The Xperia Compacts obviously didn't sell enough for them to carry on, so they're making a slightly bigger phone (but still smaller than most)
149mm does not make a compact. Sony seems to have half a right idea here -- not to widen beyond 65mm. But 149mm... er, no. Also, Sony might do well to stick to their classic media ratios, HD, FHD and UHD and 16:9 and 21:9. For a compact obviously they should stick to a 16:9 4.5-4.7 inch HD or FHD screen. I have used the XZ2 Compact for a week and thought the screen was too tall and narrow in proportion.
What I'd do is use the XZ1 Compact design, put in hardware navigation buttons on the bottom bezel and trim the top and bottom bezels by as much possible. So you get a full 4.6 inch 16:9 screen, and no navigation buttons eating into screen space. Realistically, that's the best compromise between pocketablity, one-handed usablity and enough screen space to consume and communicate.
Sony should also consider having their own Android skin with out of the box features to differentiate them from the rest. I am sure this will have a lot of Sony fans up in arms. I am one myself. But after three years on stock Android (Moto) and one year of MIUI (Redmi), I switched to an XZ2 Compact. I just could not take stock Android after having had a longer history with it than one year of MIUI. Features and facilities that were available out of the box on the Xiaomi needed rooting/bridging and a hundred tweaks to get on to Sony. Returned it and switched back to my Redmi that's into its third year.
Sony have great hardware, good design and the right ideas, but they always mess up a couple of things, and end up being not as good as they can be.
This is not compact, nor is the 10e. It's replacing both the classic and compact flagship.
1 has premium's height while retaining classic 's width.
4 or the smaller flagship will have classic height but compact' s width.
This is so stupid! Xperia4 is not compact... and XZ1 compact idea was to offer good hardware is small package. Genious! So now They Are giving up the compact and speed Also... what is the point?
I would like to see.
Low end, small, medium, and Large phone
Middle range small, medium and Large size phone
And highend small, mediaan and Large size phone
And maybe one highend note series...
7 phones no need ro more!
Small about the size of Apple 5 and se ”maybe even xz1 compact that is guite big
Medium somewhere 5.5” size
And note... what ever is needed... same hardware in each prize gategory so easy to make updates so every low end phones would have same soc, same camera etc. Ofcourse different battery size. But thats it. Very simple to make upgrades in there. Just 3 or 4 different hardware configurations. Would work like a charm!

Just because one phone has A,B,C inside does not mean the other phone can fit D, E and F in similar space. Not that simple...
Did you know that creating z1 was much easier than doing z1c? Mainly when you try to use same stuff on both. There are limitations for very small phones.
Redmi 3 is a low end. Smaller camera, no heat pipes, FPS etc ... Easier to do stuff.
Did you notice for example that phones with OIS use 1/2.5" or smaller?
Matter of size ...
Xperia 1 lost front speaker to achieve that bezel size, also selfie cam is downgrade in size too. Some ppl still think with Note 9 design you can have 1/3" or bigger front cam and front speakers. No, it is impossible.
Other ppl think you can keep IP rating using pop up or slide camera. Also impossible.
I think Mate 10 series has the ideal screen %. Bezels are not big, not tiny.
Screen hole is the most ridiculous trend ever, much more stupid than notch.
