Phone makers have been gathering data since 2012 or so. With a company taking the spotlight every year or so.
Ironically, Google gathers data since the beginning, and added the "snippets" feature to their Gboard without much complaints!
Want a "spy-free" device? Get one with Sailfish OS, I don't think anyone gathers info there. Else, stop complaining :/
Yeah right! We all know you're a Chinese shell hiding behind a European brand name.
Pfft, it's just only the Nokia 7 Plus. I'm glad I got the Nokia 8 years ago and still kicking. Guys, just buy flagships.
Jack, 22 Mar 2019Ha... ha... ha... So they, instead of use their own server to register the activation, the app... moreCorrect on all points. HMD's credibility has taken a huge dip. Feeling sorry for Nokia fans .
FrozenFire, 22 Mar 2019Gotta love how everybody makes China the evil boss villain... You're 100% certain that no othe... moreQuestion is not it's Chinese. Question is - why they collecting private data at all and even don't encrypt data? Yes, they claimed now they stole private data but promise (hahaha!) they don't share it. So shameless behavior.
I think it's ok to be Chinese, like Xiaomi, Huawei and others. But it's a shame for Foxconn to pretend they are Finnish company.
Feeling shame on being a Nokia fan,
Think other Nokia handsets are not having this issue (Biggest issue) 😢
Anonymous, 22 Mar 2019Is it true HMD belongs to a chinese corp? It's Finese based but owned by Chinese HMD I guess
FrozenFire, 22 Mar 2019Gotta love how everybody makes China the evil boss villain... You're 100% certain that no othe... moreJust a question, not saying other countries dont spy ..
Of course that those countries that still live in 60's and believe Cold War still goes on do spy on ppl.
Anonymous, 22 Mar 2019OMG, Chinese are coming, Chinese are coming...with evil servers...HIIIIIDE.
Anonymous, 22 Mar 2019Is it true HMD belongs to a chinese corp? Gotta love how everybody makes China the evil boss villain... You're 100% certain that no other country would try to collect your data and plan your doom?
PS. I'm not Chinese.
Ha... ha... ha... So they, instead of use their own server to register the activation, the app send the data and information to vnet.cn which is owned by chinese goverment right? So first, they don't mention what country, second, use a domain owned buy the goverment of that country (China), and third if you are sending that data there then you are in fact sharing that customer data. As those pass through the goverment server and be analized there before being redirected. Smells really bad.
Anonymous, 22 Mar 2019Is it true HMD belongs to a chinese corp? As much as I despise HMD, nope. Don't believe to everything you read on the internet.
HMD Global is an independent company without any owner. It is a real Finnish company, with real Finnish employees. Former Microsoft and Nokia employees work there. The only thing "Chinese" about HMD is its devices. HMD has the rights to manufacture Nokia-branded devices, and they are, indeed, made in China. That's all.
