Mike, 09 Apr 2019And what would be the reason to pay that much to Samsung and Huawei for example?best cameras in market, good customer service, real guarantee (just try one time to sollte a problem with Sony), beautiful and modern design (stuff like Punch hole are more personal opinion but overall every phone is more beautiful than Sony phones), better prices, not odd ideas like extreme long useless display.
Berserker, 09 Apr 2019The only benefit from 19:5, 21:9 aspect eatio is that it shows more content and less swiping, ... moreFella, status bar is already unreachable on 16:9 XZ2 Premium, or any other 5.5+ inch screen device out there no matter the aspect or bezel size.
About media content size in social media apps you are wrong, as it depends on the width of the screen in portrait mode, and 6,5 inched Xperia 1 is wider in portrait than, for ex 6,1 inched Galaxy S10, so content is bigger size than on S10.
About bezelless trend that makes you strech your thumb to pain levels just to reach navigation bar... yeah, its completely stupid... no wonder Sony still gets mobile design awards with its bezeled phones.
Anyway, dont mind my stance, I aint getting any 5.5+inch screen device, including Xperia 1, as those are unusable with one hand, and I definitely would prefer some 16:9 aspect device... but I cant seem to find any released this year, or probably in the future. Which is a shame.
But having to choose between 18:9, 19:9, 20:9 and 21:9, which all have their own compromises, ..I definitely believe 21:9 is the best choice.
Berserker, 10 Apr 2019Right. Sony should release ultra wide smartphone next year.nobody is using thair phones for mi... moreSony just unveiled their 16K TV. Before that they released that expensive Hi Fidelity Walkman player. Before that they challenged the photography market by releasing mirrorless cameras. Sony will release whatever device they want to release because they can, and they don't care much about our opinion. Sony is just being Sony.

LG, Nokia, HTC had stereo speaker phones first...Sony copied.
Apple had Metal/Glass body first...Sony copied.
Oukitel U18 had 21:9 screen ratio first...Sony copied...(Samsung patented a smartphone with widescreen 21:9 display in 2014)
Yes, history is definately repeating itself with Sony, as usual, just copying other brands.
Tann Hauser, 09 Apr 2019?? Excuse me, but I dont follow your logic... Users will see as big as posts and photoz in soc... moreRight. Sony should release ultra wide smartphone next year.nobody is using thair phones for milti media, soocial apps, watching photos except for gaming :fortnte and couple other games. And sony shouldn't release case with belt clip, just like the old days, because caring the phone in the pocket is not that functional.it is gona be great
Dr. Chillo, 09 Apr 2019This is an odd expensive device. I see not even a single reason to pay so much for this phone. And what would be the reason to pay that much to Samsung and Huawei for example?

Just to much compromises

Explain it then to me please, how is its elongated 21:9 not better than 18:9 or 16:9 for numerous social apps, all optimised for portrait orientation?
Anonymous, 09 Apr 2019Why mobile gamers appreciate 21:9, even though no game support 21:9? For social users, they wi... more?? Excuse me, but I dont follow your logic... Users will see as big as posts and photoz in soc apps as is the width of the screen... and it is wider than todays numerous 2:1 aspect 6 inch screen devices.
And Of course gamers will appreciate 21:9, mobile onscreen gaming is one of the few aspects that widescreen ratio actually really makes sense and brings novel immersive experience to users. Ask any gamer, 100% will agree widescreen is best, especially with games like Fortnite widescreen coming to Xperia 1.
Tann Hauser, 09 Apr 2019Well, lots of mobile gamers out there too... who will definitely appreciate the 21:9 aspect. ... moreAnd your commitment is invalid also.if you think that xperia 1 is build for social media in mind than good luck with that
Anonymous, 09 Apr 2019Top bezel is too big. Sony should go back to school to learn design more. This is so True. I'm a sony fan since the ericsson days but i'm disappointed by them for not trying to be the best on their design. It's sad to see sony mobile pull out of stores in most South east asian countries.
Sony have the most potential to be on top.
*Best display: (P-OLED) but 21:9 is not for everyone.
*Best camera: Sony have great camera module but it's funny that they can't get the best out of it but other phone manufactures do.
*Battery: In my opinion Sony have great battery optimization but they always choose mediocre capacity where competition gives us 4000-5000 mah.
Software: Sony have the lightest skin on top of android which close to stock
Updates: Sony is fast on software updates.
Bezels: They can do better. Top and bottom bezels should be symmetrical.
Lastly, Where is the bezel-less compact phone sony?
Sorry for ranting :D

She always sucked argonomically, but this phone takes the cake. Easily the hardest to use ever, and don't forget the usual tiny battery and giant bezels. Typical Sony, it is an insult to our intelligence that she is even alive, it tries to see how many people can be fooled by her still...
Anonymous, 09 Apr 2019And Xperia fans are praising the oled screen and multiple cameras of Sony's new phones.OLED screen that is much better than the competition (you see, the Xperia XZ3's display, which is supposed to the Sony's FIRST attempt at an OLED smartphone, nearly made any other OLED smartphone screens look pale in comparison, and the average consumers loved it more than any other screens they've seen on a smartphone).
Multiple cameras that actually work better (Huawei boasted about superior low light capabilities when they debuted a monochrome sensor for smartphone, but it never made a difference until Sony showed it with the XZ2 Premium's ISO 12800 video and ISO 51200 photo capabilities with the help of AUBEĀ Fusion ISP).
Besides, Sony fans didn't hate the use of OLED screens, rather the OLED quality being used. They hated the yellowish/reddish Super AMOLED panels from Samsung, but they love the natural look of P-OLED screens from Sony.
They didn't hate the use of multiple camera system, rather the implementation of them. They hated the depth sensor that serves absolutely no purpose in photography/cinematography, but loved Sony's use of monochrome sensor that actually improves low light capabilities of the phone and the telephoto & ultrawide lens which makes the phone more versatile.
I will make the Xperia 10's depth sensor an exclusion, but its main camera still worked better than the common dual camera setups we've been seeing from other brands lately.
