This makes sense, especially for cost cutting during manufacturing, however it would be a good idea to keep the disk drive for backup situations or even partying Bluray & DVDs, otherwise you'll be limited you everything on the Microsoft store. Games can often be found cheaper from other vendors or used on disk, however having said all this, it's often easier to sit on the sofa and just switch games farther than having to get up and swap disks, find the cases, store them and try not to damage the disks. We had a joke where my youngest nephew got games on CD for Christmas one year and I turned round and said who buys these?

Totally pointless idea. Just go buy a game spray £40 install it. Then 6 months when get bored, no trip to game shop to trade in or sell. So consumer has no resell value of game at all

And, needing a console for that defeats the whole purpose of it. Game streaming is meant to be doable from any device, even from a browser or mobile phone. It's cheaper because it doesn't have a BluRay drive anymore and moreover, you're basically locking yourself to Microsoft store.

Just a regular Xbox One S with the Blu-ray drive replaced by a bigger hard-drive (probably a 3.5" unit instead of the current 2.5" hdd).

I heard these are only meant to connect to the cloud and not have much processing power, hence the 'lower price' as it would only require a good, stable internet connection.

Who needs any disc drive?
I'm using PS4 with exploit, I have 70 games, all installed on external HDD.
Have an X ONE, all games are digital, Game Pass is great.

Samath N8 808 owner, 14 Apr 2019GSMA staff, I'm primarily a PC gamer... Have been gaming since 26 years now (my age:32), and I... moreI dont think the cloud will eliminate cheaters. There is always a loophole from where can be made cheats that work and are not detected. And well the games i have played past 5 years i have not seen any cheaters in them on PC. New games are just bag full of bugs and glitches that get updated with more bugs and glitches. And we are already in a point where it's super hard to understand if someone is cheating or is that some game glitch or connection issue.

And then there the new generation of kids who have no clue what so ever why games have sounds and other things, so everyone is a cheater who have better skill then the new generation kid has.

I had like 2 years pause on call of duty 4 and one day i was bored and tough i install it again and have some fun. Lasted me 10 minutes and i got banned cause some noobs tough i was cheating. While that game is just so easy and dont even need to have much of a skill on aiming.

GSMA staff, I'm primarily a PC gamer... Have been gaming since 26 years now (my age:32), and I've an old PS2 lying around for colony multiplayer fun though...

I think its ok to have a disc-less console. Even my Gaming laptop (i7, GTX1060) is discless. I use a portable USB disc drive when its needed and it works awesome for me.

Similarly, if the discless Xbox One S has USB support, why not support Bluray drives on it? Its great for budget customer too, first he gets console, BD drive a month later.

As for game streaming, I have a very different kind of opinion. I think its good and it will solve the problem of cheaters instantly.
I believe we should have a varying video quality option. And the first thing I want gone is colors.

We should have varying colour options so that a low quality/ color video can be streamed to PC's not having a good internet.
Streaming a full 16 bit color video is useless if the connection is bad.. Color reduction can help reduce data consumption without fps compromise.
FPS is very important. Also, input lag is a concern because that depends on ping and not speed/ bandwidth.

That said, privacy concerns are there with these models, but I think we've already lost that battle way ago.

LG Superfan, 14 Apr 2019I am sure Google will find a solution to itRegarding cloud gaming (not related to this console), im refering to services like stadia and gforce now etc.

Google wont ever find a solution to eliminate latency in cloud gaming, there are technical limitations that cant be eliminated by algorithms alone, they need a scientific breakthrough (aka develop a lagless comunication technology) which is only science fiction atm.

To be fair, some less demanding games will be playable (slow paced ones like card games and such) but players invest in low latency hardware like 144hz monitors for a reason.
And usimg stadia is regressing 20 years to the past latency wise, assumimg you already have ideal conditions, which btw most wont have.

Compared to Predator X21 this console is like a gameboy or russian console from 70ts era compared to brand new PC with I7 CPU and dual GPUs.

Not worth it. the regular XB1-S can double as a 4K bluray player.

Gamers, please don't support moves like that from Micro$oft. Show your "protest" by boycotting or buy a PS4 or buy a previous XBOX with DISC support. Better still, get a custom gaming computer.

Expected considering their moves.
With this wearables should be more powerful, have high battery endurance and less hw to pay for means more affordable hololens like devices, which are next level after foldables and all of that was what made them fail at replacing mobile phones of today.
Basically magic devices incoming with 5G and better AI.
