Pabliell, 23 Apr 2019From my own experience I know HMD treats their flagships poorly. I was hoping it might change ... moreSeems u are right, quite disapponted to the HMD.
They just keep agitating theirbfans and supporters of orig Nokia.
I have my NoKia 9 in April, but the front glass shattered last month, without dropping or crashing it. They are charging a fee of usd180, to replace the whole display module.
The HMD denies the defect and also refuses to arrange lab test with it.
I doubt if there s problem with their gorilla 5 glass, and their warranty is void once they regard the crack a human damage.
Same problem with my NoKia 6 as well.
Be careful, the display glass is very fragile.
YUKI93, 24 Apr 2019That is why neither fingerprint nor facial recognition could beat the good old PIN or pattern lock.Capacitive "regular" scanners were fine. These stupid companies like fixing nonexistent problems instead of actual ones like batteries being too small in most phones
In a year's time...
Person 1, "Hey remember when Nokia went bankrupt?"
Person 2, "Which time"?
That is why neither fingerprint nor facial recognition could beat the good old PIN or pattern lock.
tatar, 22 Apr 2019that's why use a keypad mobile phones instead you can disposed the when it's not usable alread... moreI somehow understood what you're trying to say despite your ridiculous grammatical skills.
And no, I didn't suggest using keypad phones to save money. The current technology that was developed was already good enough for most people, and while I, and probably many other people as well, would welcome any technological advancements on the table, it should be proven to be better than what the world has had in the past instead of something worse. In this particular case, it didn't, and that is why I'm suggesting to stick to whatever works right now until a fully working and much better solution has been made.
Instead of wasting some workforce on developing a less convenient and less secured form of biometric, the power can instead be utilized on researching, developing, and ensuring an even more practical alternative to what's already available for consumers.
Useless features from my point of view
1. In screen fingerprint scanner ( slow & not handy also increases cost)
2. 5 mp depth Sensor ( main camera with big aperture can compensate)
3. extra large displays ( prone to break & not handly also increases cost)
4. Glass back ( fragile & increases cost)
5. Wireless Charging ( not everyone uses, only increases cost)
instead of above features companies should focus on below:
1. bigger image sensor & aperture ,back camera limit to max 2
2. screen size limiting to 5.5 to 5.8 only
3. better sound output
4. rugged design
5. better battery, can compromise thickness
6. IR sensor & its better integration
From my own experience I know HMD treats their flagships poorly. I was hoping it might change with a "proper" flagship, which Nokia 9 is. Unfortunately, that's not the case. Keep away from Nokia flagships, those are treated way worse than their mid and low range devices.
PKC, 22 Apr 2019I think this phone is getting unlocked because of Face ID and not wrong finger print. Just my ... moreI agree because I still unlock it with difficulty but I think it's because using a tempered glass screen protector makes it harder to read. I've re-registered my fingerprints etc.
The only time it unlocks quickly, is if I'm putting my finger on scanner and it recognizes my face or smart unlock (when it detects body/bluetooth etc.)
Anonymous, 22 Apr 2019This Chinese company has no clue lol. Why is Nokia letting them ruin their brand? Can you give me answer of one question? Since HMD Global is Finland based company but even then you pretend its a chinese company can you give a answer of following question:
Why HMD Global have started series of Nokia 4?
Ever time a phone company rolls a update out it fixs one problem but causes more Problems never liked fingerprint security still prefer old fashion

How do you think Samsung improved fingerprint reader's performance on S10? It is the same thing

Shui8, 22 Apr 2019Last time i remember, side FPS as my old Xperia Z5 are the best.In terms of practicality, yes it is, as it saves more space on the phone, and it works regardless of the orientation of the device.
When things can already be as easy as what we have today, there's no need for more expensive shuts like this to be done.
In display finger print readers are just not ready for prime time.. That's why i went with the honor view 20 over the oneplus 6t.

Install the update for the camera improvements but turn off Fingerprint login. I haven't managed to get an unregistered finger to work, but mine has a screen protector on which makes fingerprint scanner less reliable anyway.
This one is surely failing hard already.
In-display fingerprint scanners are either slow or less secured. They are also more expensive, yet easier to break at the same time (as the user breaks the display, the fingerprint scanner is also f**ked up).
Clearly, these manufacturers are finding ways to gain more money from their users. Repairs will be more complicated, forcing them to bring their phones to their manufacturers to get them fixed, which will cost a big fortune.
Then there's the technology itself, which is just more expensive than typical fingerprint scanners.
Look, there's nothing wrong with backside or side-mounted fingerprint readers. When they could've just invested more of their innovation prowess into developing advanced facial recognition (which I could see the potential of being better than fingerprint scanners), they instead made an inferior version of what's already great.
The only thing that in-display scanners are going for is the initial impressions. Nothing else.
