It's the same thing, Nokia went in debt to be ready to sell a lot more than if they hadn't. A lot of company do the same, that's exactly why there are investor in the first part. My company did exactly the same thing 5 years ago, and now cash is flowing, just needed a little help to invest in the first place to adapt the production to the demand.
So the point is they lost money, but there is no shame in that, it's just basic economy decision that a lot of companies and people do. NATO or not.
Ericsson is a very big competitor too to built a 5G network in Western countries. However in The Netherlands one of the providers already said to use certain Huawei tech for its 5G network.

R&D is normal part of business expenses and if they aren't selling enough to cover R&D expenses, they lost money which is the case here. Other telecom have no problem investing in R&D and making money unlike sick man Nokia
Andy, 26 Apr 2019They should be approaching the UK and US and offering the undercut Huawei for its 5G infrastructureThe UK has already said Huawei will only be allowed to compete on the nonessential parts of 5G. Which, to be fair, is a lot more than they're getting in other western countries.
Zach, 26 Apr 2019Nokia go home Nokia go home? Why?
You must be living in a cave!
.alpha, 26 Apr 2019Even with NATO intervening on your behalf you still lose money. ShameWell, if you had read the news, you could have understand they did not lost money, they just invested it and so, lowered their profit. They will loose money only if this investment doesn't allow them to earn back the money invested, but since a lot of country are ditching huawei for whatever Reason, there should not be any issue here.
But since my comment is as long as the news, you will not read it too xD
