It will be for low budget wp phone only. So now nokia will directly compete with androids in the mid budget markets and phone. Emerging market will get a boost. All i can say wp is good platform unless the bluetooth transfer and memory slot(external) is added.

I'm just curious over the actual cost of mobile RAM. I would think they are relatively cheap by now. So, whats stopping manufacturers putting more RAM on their devices?

For anyone wanting this explained in simple terms...

It is good to optimise something to run on less, then when you give it more, it can do more!

Throwing "more" at something is an inefficient way to overcome its problems.

Think of an F1 racing car compared to an IndyCar - both are open single seaters, but the IndyCar has a much bigger 3.5L V8 engine, compared to an F1's 2.4L V8 engine. However, because the F1 car is optimised better, it would destroy the IndyCar around a track.

[deleted post]Yeah i am fed up with Android too..What i think they are doing is that Nokia still sell millions of phones and they maybe low end but windows is top end..So by making windows 7 available on lowish end devices it opens up a HUGE market for them..

My laptop in 2009 running Windows Vista only had 512MB RAM and 1.6GHz proccessor and 40 GB hardrive. Its also why Apple are so good and use low RAM because the O/S is so well written and liteweight.Maybe Windows 7 is going that way with good software engineers producing good O/S and apps..

AnonD-16342, 23 Jan 2012Talk 256MB of RAM is enough and almost immediately the Android Fans start saying that it is lo... moreThat's what I've been talking about for more than a year. The Android fans were blinded and thought that a beefier hardware is needed in order to have the OS run smooth. They've been blinded by Google and was brainwashed to think that more is better. Android is a power hungry OS and people, specially their fans, don't realize that. The meaning of the word "optimization" is foreign to them. And even with a dual-core and 1 GB ram, Android still lags because the OS is poorly optimized. MS proved them wrong but the Android fans can't see through.

AnonD-3367, 23 Jan 2012My Galaxy S2 has got dual-core and 1gb ram and doesnt lag at all, just as fast as a iPhone4S a... moreThe fact that MS continuesly tries to limit the resources the system puts a hold on is a great thing. Android eats up way too much RAM and is one of the reasons why most 256MB phones, never got higher than Android 2.1/2.2. Want higher, better be uing a stripped down customs ROM. It just lagged too much and left user with a measly 30MB of free RAM.

Just cause my current phone has 1GB of RAM, doesn't mean that I want Google to not give a crap about writing Android properly, 'cause the HW is so good. There's lots of room for improvement in the Android source code.

Uniformity in downloading through a similar medium would ensure a smooth transition from one firmware to another. Plus, Zune is just really cool to use.

I am using Launcher 7 on my GS2, and it has the option to add apps to folders on the start screen for quite sometime. It is a little ironic that a better "version" of WP7 is available in the android market.
