Apple has one huge advantage they have iOS it's unique, it's apple's OWN OS. They can do whatever they want with it and other's can't use it.

I saw some comment's here how there's better phones in market, Well they don't have iOS and all what you get with iOS (appstore all the best apps & games, all the best gadgets etc.)

It's so simple, if you have used iProducts you know why it sells, but if you are those sammy fans who buy phones which have best paper specs you don't never going to understand why apple sells so well.

Ray, 25 Jan 2012You are funny :) iPhone is one of the best - quality/size/functionality. It looks like you ar... morestone age kid ..lol ... come out of darkness..

iphone is least functional phone out there.
            design is boring and repetitive.
and u know there are many phones out there of tht size... and all components of iphone are made by sumsung, omnivision,lg etc ...and assembled in china by third part like foxconn ... grow up. if someone said iphone is better dont blindly keeping repeating this like many in media do...

It's not the calendar year. It is the first quarter of the fiscal year. The explanation has now been added at the bottom of the article.

The Results are for Q42011! NOT Q1 2012 when Q1 havent even end...
                    the new goes:
Apple ended last year with a bang. The company announced financial results for the last three months of 2011 today. During that period, the company earned a record quarterly revenue of $46.3 billion and record quarterly net profit of $13.06 billion.

The period reported was Apple's fiscal 2012 first quarter, which ran from October 1st to December 31st. Therefore these numbers are giving us a strong indication of the company's holiday sales. The totals are a substantial increase over the same quarter last year. In the first quarter of their fiscal 2011 year, they posted a revenue of $26.74 billion and a net quarterly profit of $6 billion.

Apple sold 37.04 million iPhones, 15.45 million iPads, and 5.2 million Macs. In all three categories, this was a significant increase in sales compared to the same quarter last year. Apple also sold 15.4 million iPods, though this was a 21% decrease from 1Q 2011.

"We’re thrilled with our outstanding results and record-breaking sales of iPhones, iPads and Macs," said Apple CEO Tim Cook. "Apple’s momentum is incredibly strong, and we have some amazing new products in the pipeline."

I am not an iphone user but I must say the kind of product Apple has, noone else has in terms of hardware quality, sound quality, simple UI with lots of featurs though SGS-II has better multimedia features but in totality iphone is definitely a winner. Sony erricson's phones has very good audio quality, but when I compared the same with apple, I found that Apple has better audio quality. So Apple is definitely ahead of other product. So to compete the iphone, other phone manufacturing companies has to concentrate on build quality(because iphone's build quality is so good that it always outshines every new product, also apple just comes up with one version of iphone and remains quiet for a year, and other companies keeps launching version by version. It shows how much apple is earning profit), sound quality and multimedia features, and ofcourse battery life as battery life is the major area of concern these days becaue screen is getting bigger and also resolution as well.

I believe they are talking about Q1 2012 as the financial year of Apple which might start 1st of October. So, their Q1 is actually Q4 2011. Otherwise I cannot explain it.
