I tried it again this morning and it got my location where as previously it would just tell me it was unable to locate me and showed Sydney instead of Adelaide, but I am in the middle of the city at work so I think the more towers being around ment it could locate me better. Still was a good 700m off where i actually was but that is still pretty good for just using the towers to find me, especially at this early stage in the beta.
The search function seems to work really well finding matches for what I type in. The directions work ok but it didn't like giving directions from where it thought I was according to its my location. Directions are fine though if I enter in both starting point and destination.
Software wise it seems to work well on my SE K800i and runs faster than some other java apps I have.
ok,and where is the famous "my location" feature in this software?i have N70 and i didn't find such thing as this feature by now.any help...?
Works even in far place like I'm living - Lithuania. It's a great thing having in mind that you do not need any additional hardware, only your java enabled phone. It's great!
For those who laugh at this new technology, they either completely lack knowledge of the type of technology used in the market. Often, They will look at a handphone with 3MP camera and goes'this is a joke, my digital camera can do 8MP, what a lame tech'. They look at Pocket PC's 625MHz processor and goes 'This is a joke, my Pentium4 can do 2.6 Ghz!!Haha, 625MHz? what a lame tech!', that's before they start to compare a 1Tera Gig server with an SDHC card...oh god.
4 those who complain bout d accuracy:
This article's purpose, i believe, was to show the new advancement in tech that's taking place. The mere fact you can navigate without GPS is something. The accuracy issue can be fixed, but I find the idea quiet extraordinary!
Turn left. Now or in 200 metres? While GPS can navigate you with accuracy of 5 m Google Maps works with 1000-200 m accuracy. This article must be a joke.
Hi guys, great news in theory and i know beta version, but just to agree im also having problems with it on my k850i..
I get a red icon and says currently not available.. at first also it said i had no room on my memo card - although its a 4gb..?..
I am using HP Ipaq voice messenger 510 and I have downloaded this application and working quite good in my phone
I've just installed it on my Treo with WM6.0 and it did the same thing. Doesn't really affect anything. When you search for different cities and destinations it will kick off basically from where you left off again.
It doesn't work with a good number of phones, especially slightly older ones. The app will load but the my location doesn't work.
So far I've tried it on an SE M600i, Moto V8 and E398 and none of them can use the my location feature
Its working in my Sony Ericsson K810i CellOne Network India. Be patient, this application will take 1 or 2 years to get much coverage like Google Earth and its mobile tower specific so 2 people on different networks at same place might not get the same results.
Triangulation has been used for such a long time now it seem slike google is running a little behind the bandwagon... but who cares... the geenral public will always think google is God of innovation... bring to life technologies... There's no doubt big companies like google can copy something curently in the industry that no ones about and calls it their own and market it way better than anyone can... Thats where they have leverage.
1000m range? that's 1km? does google have an idea how far 1km is? LOL.
I have downloaded google maps application on my Nokia-6280. But By default it shows SYDNEY as my location, but i am in Melbourne. Right country but wrong city. Does any one know the reason? and solution for this? Feed backs much appreciated... Thanks.
Hi. All comments come from developed countries like UK etc. I am in Pakistan, in the city Lahore. I just downloaded this application to my Nokia E61i...its working simply great. The best thing is that it is showing my location in the middle of london...though i have not travelled to London yet in my life!!! Keep it up Google....
