LG Superfan, 13 Jun 2019Sure you can flash ubuntu, kali linux but how many people will do it? Not many on the other ha... moreHe's referring to Linux on Dex, which is more of a coding app/launcher than a distro I think. What appeals to most customers would undoubtedly be Windows 2-in-1s anyway. But there's also the exception for those who use SIM cards with unlimited data plans on the go and stuff (just vaguely mentioning my own buying plans here). Having a lot of choices is always good even if Android tabs have become uncommon

Anonymous, 14 Jun 2019That 6gb ram will be Korean exclusive. Nice try, though. The last gen S9+ phones came with 6GB RAM, so it wouldn't be a surprise if the Tab S5 gets 6GB across the range.

What $1,500 headphones do you use? I'm curious. By the way, I have the $4,000 Focal Utopias.

No thanks.

This own you can code, even run file server if need be. It support Ubuntu (on dex) baby. Real desktop computing, not 2-3 desktop apps, most of everything that sysadmins, coders and web boaters use. Maybe in 50 years apple would be able to run those on such a lightepweight device too... Lol

Finally it's here (technically s5e and S4 had it too, but too weak). Niche use? Yeah, but pretty much many would love this. IPad is in 1909 with its toy like controls, ipad os brought it to the 21st century, still lagging. I want a proper workstation that is as portable as possible please (below 1lbr with a relatively spatious screen for its weight class).

Bye apple fanboy.

AnonD-833125, 13 Jun 2019The problem with Android tablets is the software. No matter how powerful a company makes a tab... moreLol, not to me. Don't care if apps have the phone format, there are better apps on android because they allow you more low level control. No matter how polished the iOS apps are they would always lack controls.

Each to his own I guess, as for me without apps like GMD gestures, desktop browsing, MX video (touch control of media) and es explorer I wouldn't do. Whatever apple has extra (in the app department) is not those that I use. Last time I used the iPad I felt naked, none of the apps that interest me...

AnonD-833125, 13 Jun 2019The problem with Android tablets is the software. No matter how powerful a company makes a tab... moreYou can't do that yet with them....but yes external support is coming, and about darn time, there are still some good apps on android, just not great, i own the tab 5se and its great but it was cheap, i use it to travel with as a media consumption device, its open sourced, cheap, is compatible with anything from my tv to phone to all my bluetooth speakers and various other devices, i dont have to jump thru hoops to connect X to Y, or play this format or that, or struggle to transfer data in a no internet location, just plug and play, apple has better apps for productivity for sure, and now it is FINALLY allowing some basic features like usb support i may pick up an Ipad pro, both ecosystems have their own benefits and negatives and both are not perfect, i couldn't use just one or the other because both are still not perfect enough, that's why there is still a market for android, and a premium samsung android with pen and 128gb storage and space for upto 1tb micro sd card will cost about £550, an ipad pro with pen, 256gb storage is £900, but if you want the 1tb ipad, it costs a Kidney

Nobody:
No one in the world:
Samsung: we will give you a tablet. It will run android and it will be slow and buggy.

Meanwhile, Apple is in 2029 already.

macky2green, 13 Jun 2019Samsung should turn their flagship tablets to 2-in-1s, same like the Galaxy Book 2, Microsoft ... moreThey could have also launched along with this a Samsung Galaxy Tab S5 Pro with the Qualcomm 8CX to give the Apple iPad Pro a proper challenger.

The problem with Android tablets is the software. No matter how powerful a company makes a tablet (spec wise), you still have limitation from its ecosystem. A lot of tablet apps on Android are just bump up version of their smartphone apps.
The only reason for buying an Android tablet in the past was its price, but with the introduction of the iPad 5th and 6th versions this changed dramatically. You can buy a new 300$ iPad and is still better than any 300-500$ Android tablet.
Yeah, you can say that the Android tablets have more flexibility (they let you connect external devices, mice, etc.). But, with the introduction of iPad OS, even this is no longer a plus for the Android tablets, because you can do all those things on an iPad too now.
So, the real question is: Why does Android premium tablets exist in 2019?

Samsung should turn their flagship tablets to 2-in-1s, same like the Galaxy Book 2, Microsoft Surface Pro, Surface Go, etc. I mean, for a serious business and productivity device, a typecover and stylus is a must-have.

FINALLY! An android tablet with high end specifications, and a pen to boot!

Let's hope that this signifies a larger push toward apps that take advantage of the large tablet screen. Oh, and a full browser would be very welcome.
