chester, 04 Feb 2012All this maybe useless if these fones processors overheat and melt the coatings...It's super useful because when it overheat we drop it into water ;-)

how will they waterproof the battery leads for the case of the samsung? apple has non-user replaceable batt so probably less issues there.

as for the galaxy s3 that's interesting to see if it will still come with a removable batt cover

of course, that's taking into account the rumor is true

utouh, 04 Feb 2012you are right mate, these people are just wastin their time in this stupid topic, its just a w... more"a copy cat of the motorola defy+."

No - the defy+ (and similar) have ordinary uncoated/unprotected electronic chips which have to be protected by bulky exterior and added costs instead, which in turn have to be counteracted by stripping the model from other features, in order to get the price right. After all; Defy+ doesnt quite on par featurevise with Galaxy 2 - is it?

Improved better battery life is most important than waterproof.. we are not going to wash the phone or use in swimming pool :) I hope manufacturers concentrate on improving battery life rather than other hardware bumps.. It is a major cry today among smart phone users..

Instead of water-proof...why not bug-proof.

If this is just a dirty technique to force us buyer to buy the phones with high price, then I dont like it. Just produce the phone with the best feature, fast processor, with five inch screen will be good enough.

I dont need the phone to be waterproof. Only divers and olympic swimmers need waterproof phones. The next olympic games I will want the swimmers to hook theses phones in their speedos during the event.

I myself don't receive calls under the rain. I hope a lot of people out there agree with me. For divers and swimmers, if you don't agree with me it's okay as understand your profession.

though the problem with capacitive screens is that water is also a conductor so it maybe a problem once you use the device underwater. notice how the screen controls glitch once the water was poured on it. the water seems to interfere with the controls. i wonder if that problem would be solved soon enough. i dunnoe, i find it a problem that might not be resolved. just sayin'.

[deleted post]Nokia already have a working prototype. An engineer showed it to Elop and tossed it in a tank full of water, called the smartphone, and it rang underwater. Nokia is ahead of Samsung and Apple. This article is just a rumor for Samsung and Apple while Nokia already have a working prototype.

"For example, one engineer showed Elop a nanoscale-coated, waterproof phone that still rang when dropped into a tank of water".
