"Please note that the [XZ Premium] supports 120Hz in terms of video decoding capability but we have opted to strike a balance between power consumption and consumer benefit (in terms of frame rate)," reads the email that a Sony representative recently sent to Android Authority."
April/2018
From XDA
" For context, the Xperia XZ Premium display panel supports 3 screen modes: 1080p@60fps, 2160p@60fps, and lastly the disabled 1080p@120fps mode. This disabled high frame rate mode can be enabled by reverting this commit to the display panel configuration in the kernel source code."
" It turns out that there are more Sony devices that have a hidden 120Hz display mode disabled by the kernel. XDA Recognized Developer Myself5 went digging into the source to confirm to us that the Sony Xperia X, Sony Xperia X Performance, Sony Xperia XZ, Sony Xperia XZ1, Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact, Sony Xperia XA2, and Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra all support this screen mode. Basically, any new Sony phone except for the Sony Xperia X Compact should support this mode."
AnonD-558092, 27 Jun 2019I'm fairly sure you are making this up. The XA2 definitely have 60Hz displays, not 120. The HD... moreSomeone that has a friend at Sony told about even 120Hz on midranges.
In fact all Xperia from X series with at least 1080p have it.
How do I know then that XZ2 Premium has 144Hz and WRGB screen provided by LG Display, if Sony never made it public not even tech sites ever mentioned?
I knew XZ2 Premium was going to be announced in China in April two weeks before the event. The event was told to be just for XZ2, then they showed Premium.
I even know that 10 and 10+ were going to be XA3 series, not part of new line.
Xperia are locked at 60Hz by kernel. XDA found out when Sony announced XZ Premium red colour. Just google XZ Premium 120Hz.
You can read any review here, other brands do not have 10 bit screen. Every content is tunned down to 8bit. Galaxy, Pixel and iphones cant display 10 bit images or footage.
DCI-P3 and sRGB are still 8 bit.
There are many rules to consider HDR screen. Screen was supposed to reach more than 1000 nits, no phone can unless a white point of 1% of screen area is displayed. Exactly what DisplayMate does to make Galaxy pass 800 nits.
With full screen image oled phones cant even reach 700.

The HD... moreI'm not sure about the XA2 series but the older flagship from Sony does have 120Hz display rate. It's just disable. Someone from XDA found it and the display rate can be enable via bootloader if I'm not mistaken.

The previous LCD Xperia were 120Hz already, ... moreI'm fairly sure you are making this up. The XA2 definitely have 60Hz displays, not 120. The HDR10 specification is clear in that you MUST have a 10 bit display, along with a minimum of peak brightness. If what you said is correct, there would have been class-action lawsuits.

"HDR10
HDR10 Media Profile, more commonly known as HDR10, was announced on August 27, 2015, by the Consumer Technology Association and uses the wide-gamut Rec. 2020 color space, ******* a bit depth of 10-bits, ******** and the SMPTE ST 2084 (PQ) transfer function – a combination later also standardized in ITU-R BT.2100.* (Emphasis added)
One of the upcoming Xperia will be cheaper version of 1.
I have no idea if this is 1s, 1v or IFA device.
Same cam setup of 1, but FHD LCD.
About $700.

All HDR10 display... more10bit is because the much wider gamut BT2020.
Being HDR10/HDR10+/Dolby Vision do not require to be 10 bit.
S10, Pixel 3, Mate 20 Pro, OP7 Pro, Iphone Xs, LG V40 etc are all 8bit.
Only XZ2 series, XZ3 and 1 are 10bit in mobile world.
Sony asked LG to make the screens with the specs they wanted. Triluminos grants the much wider gamut. 10bit is way beyond DCI-P3.

XDA people found out.
All other HDR10 are tuned down to 8bit, because it is cheaper.
They cant display 1 bi colors, not only 16million.
I think purple is the best seller.

Doesn't show on the sites that it is a bundle. In fact, the Focus Camera sells the "bundle" at $1298.00.

I'm not sure. On one hand, the Xperia 1 has a great screen. And the J1 Mini Prime also has a screen. That's a tie. The Xperia 1 has Android and so does the J1. Tied again. But, the J1 Mini Prime has a headphone Jack. 1-0 for the J1. Both have a processor, storage, a modem, a vibration motor... They are tied.
(Jk but you get what I mean)
