MeeGo, 08 Feb 2012Nokia should have developed they MeeGo OS, and not to switch to WP7...that was big fail. Peopl... morei totaly agree or they could have used both and not put all their eggs in one basket .. meego was an good os
It's a sign. Nokia is near collapse and it's just an excuse to save money when the truth is Nokia don't have money anymore to operate those factories.
Elop is doing an excellent job and Nokia will be bought by Microsoft before the end of the year.
Mr.Elop is making his very best efforts to make nokia a history.. he made the weak horse weaker and now he is trying to get it collapsed.. good job elop...
Nokia can come back anytime just all they have to do is to switch to android os. Imagine a NOKIADROID . Supearb idea
These companies sack thousands and then somehow expect people to still be able to buy their products.
The people they sack now can't buy products from other companies who in turn sack their staff so in turn less people buy Nokia phones. The new people they employ in other countries are paid less (or they wouldn't have moved production there) and so spend less on buying products and the whole thing collapses
The joke is that offshoring almost never actually saves money because of all the expertise which gets lost that isn't included on the balance sheet and all the other unforseen factors of such moves. It only gives the *impression* of saving money so that fat cats running the show get big bonuses before the real picture becomes clear
In the case of Chinese production - my friends in Vietnam pay me to bring phones with me from Europe when I visit them, even though they cost much more than in the home market, because they don't have confidence in the products they buy locally (substitution of parts by sellers, suspected lower quality control for products destined for VN market and also perceived lower quality of Chinese production over European production). Nokia are rather shooting themselves in the foot if they expect to sell chinese-made products on the basis of 'quality' in Asia unless it really is at the bargain basement prices, but I suspect they management really couldn't care about the realities of this decision
At the end of 2012 Mr TROJAN HORSE i.e. Elop only man working in Nokia and on 31st Dec2012 Newspaper headline "Nokia ABSORBED by MicroSoft".
How much money could Nokia save by getting rid of Elop and the other muppets in senior positions who have been making such bad decisions over the last few years?
Of course Mr Elop will be paying himself tens of millions in bonus this year for doing such a 'good job' and then will receive tens of millions more as a 'golden handshake' when he gets replaced by another, similarly self-interested sociopath in the nearish future
And those losing their jobs pay for all of this...
I don't quite get the whole Nokia situation. As far as i can tell they were doing perfectly fine before. And then Windows somehow jumped in and the whole thing went to bits. Why? They just sacked all the products in favor of Windows phones that are apparently nowhere near any kind of availability. All Nokia had to do is add Android to their portfolio. With Windows it will either be a success or a complete flop.
Nokia should have developed they MeeGo OS, and not to switch to WP7...that was big fail. People liked MeeGo, it was fast, stable and beautiful OS...I just dont understand....
i feel sory for the people losing jobs and their family. They should kick Elop out instead.
Their software is American, and their productions is going to Asia.. I guess they will play the same card Apple does in the US "But, but all our high paying jobs are still here in the US" .. Nokia will probably say the same thing. The EU is letting one of their biggest tech companies go down pretty quickly.. no bueno.
Having said that, I would still buy it if it was made in Korea
It seems like Nokia is following the foot steps of Apple by moving the factory to Asia/China
Is there anything else in the world that is not made in China?
as, 08 Feb 2012If they stop producing their phones in Europe, ill stop buying them. You got it wrong my friend, they sell more in Asia and as such making them in Asia is more lucrative. Labor costs are also cheaper. I am sure they won't miss you. Try Apple, they make it in China, you might like it.
whell, 08 Feb 2012nokia phones are great.im actually considering to buy a new phone from nokia..i dont care if i... moreMay be you havent seen any sony ericsson phones or simply sony now.
I cant spot a single similarity among its flagships, mid-variants and low end droids except for the xperia tag and the manufacturer name.
Unlike other droid maker, sony always produces something new from their drawing board. Thank god for that.
this is one of the worse decisions made by nokia besides abandoning Maemo/Meego. coz no one wants to buy nokia products which are manufactured in Asia or which are "Made By Nokia". I'm Asian..i can tell !
