If you're going to go for a fragile phone (slippery, fragile glass, motorised unit), then you may as well do the Flip design to get a better quality camera and extra features out of it.
Notches/Holes are only a stop-gap solution. I see the Chinese phones going under-display for next year 2020, but I feel like both Samsung and Apple are going to play it safe, and do it a year later once the market is tested and the technology is a little more mature. Plus it gives them an extra year to get rid of their Notch Stockpile.
The best solution seems to be on the Xiaomi BlackShark 2. It's very slim bezels, slightly larger than the Meizu 16s, but slimmer than the Razer Phone 2. And you get an awesome audio experience.
Of course people here don't care about selfie camera. This site mostly consists of tech nerds.
AnonD-794217, 07 Jul 20190,01% people in the world agree with youthis vice versa means 99.99% are stupid... lol
design over functionality and quality seems to be the new engineering guideline... bezels are still not a bad thing ... but the marketing say yes now it is bad... stupidity never dies... go on smartphone industry and design useless rubbish...
Pop up is the best up till now they don't ruin displays and proved to be durable and not prone to wearing and image quality is the best due to larger sensors and better lenses.
Personally the Asus Zenphone 6 has nailed the camera idea. The folding module on back that flips up when you take a selphie. That way the get quality picture on both sides.
Front + rear display combination were the best. Most flagship phones have glass back anyway, so why not slap a 2nd screen there. Superior and most stable camera is always the rear.
can't we just have an extra part to reflect the rear camera when we need the front camera???? I really don't we any point putting so much R&D time and money to hide that stupid front camera
Denis Thomas, 07 Jul 2019This is getting stupid.. I mean why all this "kill em bezels" thing anyway? Phones are looking... moreI'm not against "bezels" (after all, there is Meizu 16s which is fine), but I'm tired of whining about "lack of originality" in smartphones appearance (the "design" is not about appearance only). What "originality" are you talking about? Why this "originality" should matter at all? Smartphone is just an instrument, a little PC in your pocket. It should be practical, convenient, comfortable, non-ugly enough - there is no place for "original" in there.
It's pointless, if you cannot get some good selfie or do a quality video conversation, so most People will better wait for a good under display camera rather than getting poor one. But it's for sure we are going to see ome awesome UD cam ..in near future..some are patenting their designs.
Denis Thomas, 07 Jul 2019And how are you going to do video calls? And if I don't do video calls? =)
Well for me a good selfie cam is important not just for sending own pics to my GF or family but for making video calls as well.
But i amwondering how underdisplay camera would run with scratched screen or with messed screen from fingerprints or some other fuss like soil, mud etc.
But lets see.
This is getting stupid.. I mean why all this "kill em bezels" thing anyway? Phones are looking more and more copy pasted of one another and there is no originality at all in this design.
Im so against this trend and I never understood it's need anyway.
At this point, after seeing all the nonsense in the past 2 years, I'd be fine with the selfie cam just being removed completely.
