Devil, 16 Jul 2019Mediatek never produce anything good so let's hope it's at least cheap. u probably only have been reading comments and never actually used a Mediatek one.
They have very capable chipsets, not all their lineup is amazing but some are actually great, like the X30, but they have to cut corners to make things cheaper. Qualcomm is smothers the market as they see fit as there are barely other competitors, Samsung and Huawei dont really sell to 3rd parties.
Also for all the bashing, you should wonder why Mediatek is still here after all these years if they were crap only. (They do chipsets outside of phones too, good ones)
Anonymous, 17 Jul 2019My Motorola phone is powered by Snapdragon 410. Pretty good processor. And don't forget it isn... moreSnapdragon 410 is the worst quad A53 based soc! Even Amlogic or Allwinner run A53 better.
According to frequency, it should be around 10% faster.
Most SD410 based devices still run a 32bits OS, it takes years to see 64bits OS on it!...have a look on your Motorola, I bet it's a 32bits OS!
Compare it to mt6732 released the same year...
Qualcomm cut the costs on it.
It is so bad that Mediatek lower performances with mt6735 and mt6737 (released after mt6732)
Nothing compare to SD855, yes it's true.
But why?
Qualcomm uses patents to stop competitors developpement according to many courthouses in China, South Korea, Taiwan, European union and even USA...
Today, you can't sell high-end soc...
Mediatek tried with mt6595 and Helio X30.
Intel tried with Z3580...
CPU was better on mt6595 especially on JavaScript tasks, and the soc was able to encode 4k in H265 when SD805 Can only decode.
Z3580 had a better GPU (powervr 6430, the same used on Apple's soc)
Commercial failures!
Qualcomm can release bad soc and sell them (nearly) without any problem (SD410/615/808/810).
Please tell me why?
High-end exists only on Samsung as Samsung build both devices and soc and on Huawei/Honor for the same reasons. That's not competition.

Ok it's 233 pages, but if you don't read it, your opinion is biaised.
You want some competition, force Qualcomm to respect FRAND conditions instead of looking for useless benchmarks.

...when most people talk about lack of optimisation (they should try SD615 or 410 to see what is lack of optimisation), or throttling (they should try Exynos 7885)
Nevertheless, on Helio P90, it's PowerVR GM, not GT like Apple's or Helio X30's
On some old OpenGL tests, GM9446 will probably be less powerfull than GT7400 Plus...
In my opinion G90 won't be an overclocked P90 but a new chip.
Still not for flagship, it's not Helio X serie.
But something close to Snapdragon 730G.
A few monthes ago, a new reference appear on geekbench : mt6785

I think this can be this G90.
If seems to be based on Cortex A76 with 2x16bits memory (like SD730), when P90 is based on Cortex A75.
I think GPU will be different too
Mikey, 16 Jul 2019It doesn't matter. It's like cloning a Lambo V12, wadding it into a 10 year old Ford Focus (... moreMan all that hate on MediaTek based solely on comments from stupid kids that probably have never had a MediaTek phone. It may not be on par with SD or Kirin, but Helio are definitely capable chips.
15% improvement over the Mali-G72 MP3 is still a weak GPU.... nothing you can use in a flagship and even weak for high mid-rangers or premium mid-rangers.
It doesn't matter. It's like cloning a Lambo V12, wadding it into a 10 year old Ford Focus (the base model only), with the stock transmission and keeping it front wheel drive, marketing it as a sports car.
That's exactly how it goes for MT. Doesn't really matter how good this chip is or isn't. It's doomed. Some lousy OEM will drop it in a pathetic excuse for a phone, paired with the worst components possible, all in the name of cost, then call it a gaming phone.
I've always like PowerVR GPU's. Ever since the iPhone 6s with the GT7600 GPU. That GPU is on par with a fully unlocked ADRENO 530 with out the thermal constraints. I modded my LG v20 with the SD821 clock mod and have the SD820 and ADRENO 530 running full out and its still a very capable chipset when themal's are thrown out the window. My next SOC or phone I should say will a SD845 or the SD855. So an LG v40 now and i. A year I'll get the ONe+ 7pro with its 90Hz screen and ADRENO 640. When i upgrade i like jumping a whole Gen. So ADRENO 630 from a 530 is massive jump. But with PowerVR there Graphics capabilities are next to none have you ever notice how the graphics or games looks so much better on iPhones from the past that's because of the PowerVR GPU. Even the PowerVR GT7400plus in the Meizu Pro7. Its only about as powerful as an ADRENO 430 but it has sustained performance and in the Helio X-30 with 10cores is a nice SOC.

They've got Standard Essential Patents...
OEM can't buy these patents elsewhere...
These patents are overpriced.
This is a non-FRAND behavior.
They can lower their price on chip because of very high profits on patents.
Most of their profits are on patents, not on chip!
They're accused to sell chip below costs to remove NVIDIA/Icera from smartphone's market for exemple.

DavidRegalJnr, 16 Jul 2019Let me guess,it just about matches the gpu level of Sd 710 and Kirin 970..First, sd710 and kirin 970 are not the same level. Kirin has way better gpu
The gpu is only 15% more powerful than mali g72mp3 so I think that it will compete with adreno612 in sd675

Will be considered a 'gaming' SoC once it got at least the performance of SDM730 CPU and Mali G76 MP6 GPU. Otherwise it's just pure gimmick to sway some people from choosing the SDM730/730G
