Anonymous, 09 Aug 2019What if a simple fix for your car, like a spark plug replacement, is only possible with a spec... moreI would take that into account and make sure I have the financial possibilities to use, maintain, and get said car/device serviced regularly and on demand. If I don't have the resources for all of that, I would just find something which I can afford.
It's easy, no one is forcing me to buy the best and the most expensive things. I buy what I can truly afford, taking all potentially hidden costs into account.
Anonymous, 09 Aug 2019Yes, I am taking my car to be serviced even though I have the capability of fixing it myself. ... moreWhat if a simple fix for your car, like a spark plug replacement, is only possible with a specific part from a particular company and requires that company's exclusive tools and software?
And you get charged $1000 because you have nowhere to go?
Laugh all you want but John Deere tractors are a peek to the future.
Let us also not forget how phone batteries are getting sealed even on budget trash tier phones.
Take a hint.
AnonD-794992, 09 Aug 2019And you are taking your car to authorised servide even if you can repair it yourself?
Maybe y... moreYes, I am taking my car to be serviced even though I have the capability of fixing it myself. I prefer authorised experts to do the work, so in case something breaks afterwards, they are the ones responsible for re-fixing their mistake.
I can disassemble and re-assemble a smartphone without much trouble, I did just that a couple of times and phones worked perfectly afterwards. But if something were to go wrong, I would have been the only one responsible for the issue and I would have had to pay an expert to re-fix it, or buy another phone instead. That's the risk of this kind of stuff.
Also, when I bought my phone I took into consideration breaking the screen once or twice a year and or replacing the phone once a year. Taking these into account, I was able to afford a used iPhone X, whereas if I were to just take the upfront cost of a phone into account, I would have gotten the XS 256gb.
The problem with most people is that they don't factor in the maintenance and replacement costs when buying a new phone. All they see is the direct cost of the phone and nothing else. Which means they make bad purchase decisions.
If you have $1000 budget a year for a phone, then you need to buy something that costs max $500. That way you can cover the cost of some repairs or a new device in case that one gets wrecked.
If your yearly budget is $300, then your best option is to buy a used phone for no more than $150.
When you buy a device and worry constantly about the cost implications of breaking it or replacing certain parts, it only means you bought something which you cannot actually afford. Otherwise it's like spending all your money on a race car but then you have no money for its maintenance, can't rent a track, can't afford modifications, etc. aka you bought something which you had the money for, but which you cannot afford.
People who buy the phones they have money saved up for, just buy something they cannot afford. As easy as that.
LG Superfan, 09 Aug 2019Atleast your phone will workIf i replace the battery by myself the phone should work like before. If i damage something during the replacement then that's my fault, but to be forced to take the pgone to authorised service witch charges ridiculous amount of money that is not acceptable.
Anonymous, 09 Aug 2019Why just single Apple out? What makes you think Android OEMs don't do the same? Rigged benchma... moreSony, samsung, huawei, htc and almost any other brand, i didnt find and limitations when it comes to repair. Can you name one android that have software limitations after screen, battery or any replaced part? None.

Maybe you are not but some people are capable of fuxing stuf on their own.
Good luck when you crack the back glass on your iphone x. I doubt you gonna justify the price for that repair
Not a bad idea
This is sad
All they want is more money. I personally think apple doesnt care about their customers as much.
Their iphone 11 is a joke.
I was iphone user years back. I switched to android and I'm happy.
I'm sick of Apple and their moves. I'm going to leave Apple system.
ClearlyNotAShill, 09 Aug 2019Well, your comment highlights, broad as day, that you're either a bot, or, an Apple employee, ... moreits really easy to fix your car yourself as it is to fix a phone , sis you can learn how to do things

I don’t get the car analogy, when you replace a car battery you take it out and put a new one in, if the car showed a bad battery light even though it has a good new battery that manufacturer would be on the news’s because of right to repair and the major car servicing garages speaking up about it.
young should be able to repair anything you own, car, phone, computes this is infringing on consumer rights not choose where to repair, and especially for the people who live far away from an apple store, for the 16 years I’ve lived on this earth I’ve learnt. 1. I’m the gayest gay boy. 2. it’s fun to modify cars. 3. brand loyalty is a bad thing and most bands are out for MONEY. for example, apple: expensive from start to finish
apple has don’t this to further control your device once out of their hands and to unfairly harm the competition putting good repair shops on blast.
to anyone that is for this move think about the end user not being able to repair, small businesses and apples new found ability to charge higher for repairs killing the competition.
Anonymous, 09 Aug 2019Hey, if you wanna hate Apple from preventing non authorised 3rd party repair shops to repair t... moreWhen you pay three times the price of a device to own it, its YOUR PROPERTY and not Apples.
Apple cannot claim a stake on that device once you bought it after paying the full amount.
Think before you say.
As far as I know Apple customers they won't care at all.
ClearlyNotAShill, 09 Aug 2019Well, your comment highlights, broad as day, that you're either a bot, or, an Apple employee, ... moreA more consistent user experience is the result of this third party repairs block. I would much rather buy a used iPhone which was serviced by Apple alone rather than buy one which has knock off parts in it or has been tampered with by unauthorised people.
Also, this will increase price retention of iPhones that were only serviced by Apple, compared to those "repaired" by unregulated and unauthorised third parties.
I don't work for Apple, although I wish I did. And only started owning Apple products last year and I love them. When it's time to work with a windows laptop or an android device, all I feel is "eeeeeccckkhhh... don't wanna touch that!"
Popy, 09 Aug 2019This is why u don't buy iPhone This is exactly why you buy an iPhone: you know if it's in good condition or if it's been "fixed" by unauthorised hands. You have the guarantee that the phone was serviced by Apple only.
Just like you have it with cars.

And apple is full of them.
Insanity if anything
Anonymous, 09 Aug 2019Thanks to those who shilled hard for these devious methods just for the sake of having a good ... moreIn fact I have got my 6s plus battery replaced for money equivalent to 70 usd from an authorized apple service center. that means they already are charging much bigger amount for the battery that cost just 10-12 usd.
