Due to the high pixel count (27 or 108), this 70mm² sensor might not be better than Huawei's 40mm² sensor in extreme low-light conditions.
Don’t think so Samsung going to use this 108MP they want just to sell it to other Chinese OEM’s I think Samsung will stick to 12MP, but with bigger sensor and new camera hardware and software for the next high end Galaxy’s and note.
Love the Community, 12 Aug 2019So let's be glad that it took us almost 6 years since the release of Nokia 808/1020 to get cam... moreCamera sensor size isn't that important. It's important for base Iso photos. But otherwise f-number is just as important as sensor size.
AnonD-454049, 12 Aug 2019And what would be the benefit of doing that?Like a DSLR to use all of the pixels instead of two in a array consisting of 4 in which the other 2 is used to simulate hdr effects
Anonymous, 12 Aug 2019Sensor can do 6K. But if CPU cannot, it cannot be provided. FYI Exynos ISP is capable of encoding 8K video at 30fps.
6K video recording...Combine that with Camera app having Manual mode for Video recording (like LG) and I'm sold
Samsung always with the ridiculous marketing and somehow, people still buy into it 😂
jamesschwarz987, 12 Aug 2019Done already. The Lumix CM1 has monstrous 1" type camera crammed into 5" Android smartphone wi... moreThat was indeed gadget, technical XD
But normal one preferred, maybe with prism / mirror inside body to reduce bump.
first im happy the competition now concer on sensor size
but seems people forget high mp (literally ridiculous high mp) is useless for smartphone except for downsample purpose and cropped method maybe? .
even full frame sometimes struggle with high mp in low light. not only that 100mp almost not used in daily. and not only that the file size will also big.
i dont know what marketing trying to do with high mp.
why they dont make large sensor with medium mp or small mp so it can produce great quality image.
but for sake of innovation this is good.
Anonymous, 12 Aug 2019Sensor can do 6K. But if CPU cannot, it cannot be provided. Flagship Exynos can support it..... specificaly as an example, Exynos 9820 can support up to 8K
With 1/1.7" P30 Pro still has a huge bulge on 8.4mm body thickness and the 1/1.2" Nokia 808 is 14mm fat and 18mm thick on its camera part, i wonder how thick the phone bulge are with this sensor.
Let me eiiiiiiiiin, 12 Aug 2019Waiting for full-frame, or at least 1" sensor come to gadget, probably if vendors stop these "... moreDone already. The Lumix CM1 has monstrous 1" type camera crammed into 5" Android smartphone with 21mm thick. Also if you count non-phone Android device, Samsung Galaxy NX is an APS-C Android based mirrorless camera.

Anonymous, 12 Aug 2019Sensor can do 6K. But if CPU cannot, it cannot be provided. Actually there's already a CPU that can encode upto 8K 30fps (Exynos 9820), so it's not an issue...

Nick Tagataka, 12 Aug 2019It IS a bad thing for a camera sensor, you genius. But this isn't about miniaturization, though. The sensor grews up to 1/1.33" diagonal, leaving most flagship being stayed at 1/2.55" type, so it's actually an improvement on smarphone camera.
Anonymous, 12 Aug 2019Remember: more pixels doesn't equal to better quality. That's only true when the sensor size remains the same.
Anonymous, 12 Aug 2019Remember: more pixels doesn't equal to better quality.Remember too : Bigger sensor means more detail, more dynamic range, and more FOV.
And personal preference, i actually never cared about the resolution that they're bragging about. 8 MP is more than enough to expose the detail capability of most sub-1 inch type sensors, also for storage savings.
Let me eiiiiiiiiin, 12 Aug 2019Waiting for full-frame, or at least 1" sensor come to gadget, probably if vendors stop these "... more1" sensor must be thicker than cellphones.
Not counting lenses.
Sensor can do 6K. But if CPU cannot, it cannot be provided.
