Kriegsherr, 27 Aug 2019Come on. we are talking about display qualities. Not survivability test or whatever.Well the display cracked so thus its quality.
Sony makes best displays then Samsung is on par with Huawei and apple the rest of the brands follow.

CptPower, 24 Aug 2019Funny LCD made by Samsung. LG does a lot better work also some other companies like panasonic. Displays are not just about manufacturing. Optimization plays a big role in how the final output would be. When iphones used LCD, just compare them with contemporary phones. Like 6s plus or 7 plus had the best LCD Displays. They weren't as punchy as amoleds for colors but they were miles ahead of other LCDs available in the market.

Apple will fo anything to save some money it seems.
We all know that Samsung makes better quality displays, S10 series set new records in the industry, only for Note10+ to surpass even that.

But Apple is already selling a phone with 6.1 inch 828+1792 LCD display for 750 Dollars and in Europe it costs over 900 Euros. That is PPI of 326, and iPhone4 from 2010 had PPI of 330... To make it even better, it has a single camera, and this price is for base 64GB model. Mind blowing, right?

Now, Apple will keep prices the same, but continue to sell you a phone with cheaper, not so good display. Apple seems to go backwards on so many areas latley. Except with profit margins. I suppose they'll be selling 200 dollar worth hardware for 999 dollars by 2024.

FreedaBees, 23 Aug 2019No they don't. I have been using an OLED screen phone, daily, since 2010, and there is no burn in.I don't think you know what you're looking for. The status bar and soft button area is likely a different brightness/color than the rest of the display. There is also almost certainly uneven pixel decay reducing color accuracy significantly. The signal bars, clock, battery percent, wifi indicator, etc. are probably visible to some degree when those elements are not present but the panel is on. My Galaxy S7 had visible burn-in before its second anniversary.

Kriegsherr, 22 Aug 2019Do you know what you are talking about? iphones had one of the best LCD displays in the market... more...and I am so sure you could tell the difference in pixel spacing, etc. Optimization....marketing.... It largely comes down to personal preference in the end once dealing with high end displays

The cheaper panel is not enough to offset the tariff posted on the phone.

Diversifying the supply chain is never a bad idea. Gives flexibility if a problem occurs (natural disaster, factory explosion, political instability, trade war, lost shipment, etc.). It can also reduce component costs. Apple is far from the only company doing it.
