"Unlike the early prototypes that Huawei showed there's now a release button for the screen. When folded, pushing the button releases the screen and you can proceed with unfolding it."
I don't get this article, the button been there since begin, I remember when i saw it and thought, well that's a very good detail and makes it easier to open.
https://youtu.be/NOqcpZj_NUg?t=195 (3:15) here's video from 7 months ago and this guy is showing the button.
But now when you compare this prototype and the final product, this button design actually have changed, it's now clearly easier to spot for users with that orange part. I liked the black button more, more sleek design. but like it would matter, i never would buy this device anyway :)
Anonymous, 17 Oct 2019The button was there all along...not a new design.+1
It's funnier because that video is from Gsmarena too. :p
not to burst your bubble gsmarena but the button has been there from day one, it just looked different.
Reminds me of the pouch that came with the Galaxy SII(GT-I9100). It was quite similar and made the product feel more luxurious/expensive.

Huawei display just can't be better since there's no better and not super expensive technology yet for foldable displays.
imparanoic, 17 Oct 2019i presume it will have a soft plastic screen like samsung fold, maybe even easily scratchable ... moreWhile you're right, it's hard to get glass that folds. So plastic is really the only option.
i presume it will have a soft plastic screen like samsung fold, maybe even easily scratchable as well, i seen jerry rigs everything use finger nails to scratch samsung fold screen, not sure anyone would want a phone which can so easily damages, probably mate x has this issue as well. time will tell

The display quality of the Galaxy Fold is just plain *horrible*, just watch the video at Jerry Rig. It's easily scratched by *anything*, be it fingernails or whatever else.
It's pretty much impossible to be even *more* easily scratched than the Galaxy Fold XD
Since the Mate X has the display quite exposed on the outside, it has to be much more scratch resistant than the Galaxy Fold (which isn't scratch resistant in the very least).
I'm already expecting Jerry Rig's test to see how well it fares.

The Mate X is huge all the time. You can choose between huge and huge times two. While the Fold is small and usable one-handed when needed and big when needed. I just don't see why you'd want big and big times two. It's not a phone anymore, it's a truncated tablet that becomes a full tablet.
Damn, that is one beautiful device!
Until we find solution to the crease, this is the perfect foldable phone to this day.
Ummmmm, this is awkward....
The button has been there all along, it's been the only way to unfold the screen from the start. The button itself has had a redesign however, it's more shallow but covers more area and is "clickier"
I think Huawei nailed the true purpose of foldable phone. Mate X has 1 screen and 1 cameras setup, both served as the main hardware as a phone or as a tablet. Galaxy fold had 2 screens and 3 cameras setup, ruining the true purpose of foldable phone, which basically a phone and a tablet slapped together in a shell.

Imagine pushing slightly harder with fingernails when you unwrapped the Mate. :/
