TruthSeekr, 16 Mar 2012A couple of years ago, you would have said 3" is good enough for anyone.
In fact, even... moreand you had mentioned i it was in 2009 so 3'inch was great at that time and we are in 2012 the high advanced phones can't just have 3-3.5inch and I'll tell you from now NO one will like the 4'-4.5' in 2015!!!!
What kind of survey is this, consumers never asked for a 4.5 inch screen? 4 inch or 4.2 is the max, thy make massive screens and then say they have to make it thin to compensate and then they put a terrible battery inside...
We as consumers have no choice but to buy the big screens cause thats all they make now, what phone u gonna get when u want LTE? There all massive phones so we have no choice, I had to buy a 4.5 inch galaxy lte to experience the lte but wow the phone is too big and battery it terrible. They should max out at 4.2 and whoever wants big goes and get the note. That's it
I think, the range should been from 3.7" to a maximum of 4.3" That would be what can still be termed a "phone". Bigger than that will not really serve the purpose of a smartphone.
I currently own an optimus black w/c has a 4 inches screen and its perfect! If I would buy a new phone that has a bigger screen than my current one...a 4.5 - 4.7 would just be more than enough for me.

do you live in the 19th century dude?
Time and needs changes the meaning of some things.
Computer before was just made for....computing, not for socializing and gaming.
Car before was made for transportation not for racing
for the normal phones(dumbphones) i would agree that it's just made for calling and sms. but SMARTphones are bound to be a smarter than just for calling and text messeging.
I would love to have a phone with 4" or more of screen size but i think it's all about phone's specification and UI rather than a big screen.
I think it's so much easier to hold & work with a 3.5 - 4 inches smartphone and it also fits in your pocket.
For web browsing or watching movies I'd rather use a lap top with 15 inches screen or even a tablet! not a 4.3 or 4.5 .
Wat a nice topic! TO me the bigger the screen the better, currently my best screen is the one on GALAXY NOTE, it is simply big and is in HD. how i wish there is a GALAXY NOTE2 with a 7.0" SUPER AMOLED HD DISPLAY. i will definately be among the first ones to acquire that device. i like the bigger screen coz is ideal for note-taking in class and for my revision in-terms of reading my class handouts.
I think the Galaxy Note smartfone is the optimal size of just over 5 inches for pocket mobility and convenience yet with big screen real estate and a pen for fine work. A excellent business and academic tool.
Here we go again..goin' back to the brick-sized-bulky-phone-that-won't-fit-to-your-pocket. Phones are made for calling, or sending messages-perfect for 5 fingers. If more than 5 fingers, it's a tablet or computer--perfect for watching videos and browsing the internet.
The one most important is The ease to hold with one hand ...N not slipping out of our hand while holding or textine or viewing it.
4 inch is ideal for me bcoz its easy for my thumb to reach any part of the screen when I'm holding it with one hand..
I have 3 phones . iPhone 4s (3.5") Samsung galaxy tab 7.7 " and Nokia N95 8G (2.8") .
I think iPhone 4s(3.5") to touch screen but small . galaxy 7.7" is small screen for pad but it big phone . Nokia n95 (2.8") is good for type or nun touch phone . I think 4.3 - 4.7 is good screen for touch screen phone . I plan buy Samsung new smart phone like GS2 HD LTE Galaxy nexus 4.7 or htc one x , xl, or Sony Xperia S . .......
my personal experience is ....
I have used my frnds samsung galaxy SL i9003 which has 4'' screen .... I felt its kinda big for my hands ... I have bigger hands then also i felt that my fingers r not getting da top edges of the screen .... I felt uncomfortable while using the phone .... For me i think 3.7 inch would be perfect.

In fact, even GSMarena did - just check out some of their reviews from 2009 and you'll see they talk about *generous 3" screens*
The madness has to stop somewhere...
I own a Samsung Galaxy S2 just whats perfect. The 4.3" screen I think is the limit for Phones...Although anything from 3.5" - 4.5" would do fine, and anything above this is not a good idea.It would cross the limit of user friendliness.Using the phone with one hand would than be a task...
Yea I agree. 4" should be the minimum smartphone screen size. Smaller than that is not practical for being a smartphone. Smartphone should be literally smart, smart in the sense that you'll be comfortable and has a lot of space for the tools like on board keyboard.
Let me say you one more thing; once you use 4" or bigger, there's no turning back.
