Rear is not bad but it looks but your hand is expected to perform additional action unlike onscreen FP sensor
To be honest neither is good.
Face recogntion can be fooled by photo in phone or a picture or something like that.
And indisplay readers wont work on a scratched phone or when your screen is completely broken.
Whats worse you cant put a screen protector which will work very well with indisplay fingerprint reader without having a veird hole in place of the reader.
Old methods with pasword, captcha or pattern are best or the old fingerprint reader which is on bottom, back or front of the phone but not inside the screen.
In-display FFS everyday of that week and twice on Sunday but Samsung's version needs to be much faster. Also having it over at least a 3rd of the lowest part of the screen will help.
At home: face unlock is better
On the road: fingerprint (you look weird raising your phone all the time)
At night: fingerprint
Lastly: in display fingerprint scanners are becoming really good... We just need bigger areas to which they work and of course accuracy is not ideal yet
I would choose face recognition made by Apple ONLY but not IN-DISPLAY FP cause it causes burn-in shadow ! Loong live capacitive fingerprint !!
The best isn't there to select. It's a proper fingerprint reader at the BACK of the device where it is the easiest to open your phone! There is zero need for them on the front screen or even on older phoned on the front button. It's awkward. The back was the perfect place for them. It didn't need changed at all
Today I faced classic situation where I couldn’t unlock using FaceId wearing helmet while driving my bike while trying to check direction! My M20P became handy with fingerprint reader quickly unlocked! In my region two wheelers are very common! But in cold places wearing gloves will pose problems for fingerprint reader!! You probably need both!
Face unlock would say more secure
Anonymous08082019, 03 Nov 2019My phone supports only fingerprint unlock, so I'm not voting.*More specifically rear fingerprint unlock and not in-display or face unlock
Both. Both is good.
I mean I'd rather have a good fast fingerprint reader and face recognition. Haven't tried any in-display readers yet. Love the setup on my Oneplus 6 with fast fingerprint reader and pretty decent face recognition.
Though it's slow but there is no alternative to Irish scanner, if you need security. Otherwise anything is alright.
Anonymous, 03 Nov 2019I think you should add, rear fingerprint or in display fingerprint. I prefer rear fingerprint ... morepixel 4 has sub 80% screen to body ratio........ thats the price you willing to give for face scanner ? Even iris scanner is far superior .
Why not dual factor authentication with FaceID and Fingerprint? It's always good to have more protection
Both are technologically much more secure than PIN or password, but not when it comes to robbing on the street. It's so much easy to grab your phone and force you to press your finger or look at the phone, all these can happened without a single word and nobody will noticed...
Neither. Rear mounted fingerprint sensors ftw
I was all about fingerprint reader till I started to use face recognition. For me it is much more convenient, faster and I would say more secure when using phone to pay.
