Have a solar panel and I use it on the beach, come back home with fully charged phone/watch.
I like that idea on a phone.
Ideally OEM's should support their product with 5 OS updates & 10 years of Security patches from launch date.
If for example LG promised this, their sales would rocket.

Envi... moreso true.
many people trashed their still working phones nowadays just because phones didn't get an OS update anymore.
those so-called 'trash' phones still very capable of making call, text, and browsing the net but they said it was obsolete phones since those phones couldn't get an update on their fave socmed & gaming apps.

I can still remember the Sagem Puma, a phone ahead of its time.

Hypocricy at its best. People really don't know how much resources go into producing lithium batteries and solar panels. Both aren't reuseable anymore once their life span is over, and the amount of work and pollution needed to extract needed resources is huge. This kind of stuff everyone is pulling these days is pure virtue signalling, "look, we're *eco* now too! don't you care about the planet??!". If you truly cared about the planet, you wouldn't buy a smartphone in the first place.
There must be Solar Panel in a phone plus a system that transmit panel energy to battery again for charging. It will increase battery timing as well as endurance of phone.

How about a manufacturer create a solar panel charger for smartphones??
I mean, it would be a super large solar panel with USB C adapter to connect and charge phones with.
In other terms, it would act as a power bank, but it charges through sunlight instead.
A solar panel the size of a roof is enough to power about 10 appliances consuming an average of 500W in 6 hours.
I'm pretty sure a solar panel 1/4 of that size would be enough to charge up to 5 phones with 4000mAh batteries in just an exposure to sunlight for about 12 hours.

Kingslayer, 03 Nov 2019Interesting concept. Hideous design like those rugged phones or pre-Xperia Z water/dust resist... moreDo you know any solar panel that can charge faster than a common solar panel?
I really wish the solar panels had improved in their efficiency. 1 hour light exposure for a 10-minute call can be a life-saver for a stranded person/in an emergency situation, but very impractical for the average joe.
To be 100% honest, if I think about it (i.e. improvements in solar charging), this would be TRUE wireless charging for me, especially when compared to a charging pad where you cannot move the phone or even shift your phone slightly (the efficiency of charging reduces, power wastage increases). Now I know that wireless chargers these days charge the phone very fast. But if speed is what I was concerned about, then I would just use my wired charger instead.
It would be a wonderful turn of events if I could sit by a window or under a light source and continue using my phone for light-to-medium tasks like emails or 2d games, and not have the phone charge decrease. I would buy such a phone in a heartbeat, and I assume many others would too.
I don't think we need solar charging, but I do think that the box made of recycled materials is a good idea.
