Don't know about others, but I still love my Samsung Gear VR and use it quite often. It's a shame that Samsung ditched VR support in latest Note series.
Why didn't VR flourish as everyone expected it to?
I thought we'd be watching live sports with a 360 deg VR experience by now.
Is it an issue of bandwidth?
They limit access to DayDream.
They dumped support for it in latest pixel.
They dont support new VR developers.
They limit access to their own VR apps like Youtube VR.
They dont advertise it.
And now when everyone get annoyed by lack of any support from them... they make cardboard open source...
For long time I was helping making games and apps for android VR, I often by my self send support materials for devs. I made my own games... And it never last long, because small margine of people use VR, and most of people want 1-5minute apps/games. No one wanted proper games, and most of users tried VR on medicore phones so they never get good quality experience, and you can really optimize VR more on android.
And NOW when even cheap phones have power to run VR in good quality... no one bother with getting VR goggles...
Back in 2017, I had the Cardboard VR out of the box bundled with my older Honor 8 Pro. - https://m.gsmarena.com/honor_8_pro-review-1604p2.php
Its a cool stuff. But the 'wow' effect doesnt last long. After few times playing with it, got bored & ditch it.
