Walter C. Dornez, 18 Nov 2019Now that I think about it, Samsung originally sold groceries. Where they are now is such a far cryWell exactly and according to wikipedia Nokia was a pulp mill 150 years ago.
The company has operated in various industries over the past 150 years. It was founded as a pulp mill and had long been associated with rubber and cables, but since the 1990s has focused on large-scale telecommunications infrastructures, technology development, and licensing. Nokia is a major contributor to the mobile telephony industry, having assisted in the development of the GSM, 3G and LTE standards (and currently in 5G), and was once the largest worldwide vendor of mobile phones and smartphones. After a partnership with Microsoft and subsequent market struggles, its mobile phone business was bought by Microsoft, creating Microsoft Mobile as its successor in 2014. After the sale, Nokia began to focus more extensively on its telecommunications infrastructure business and on Internet of things technologies, marked by the divestiture of its Here mapping division and the acquisition of Alcatel-Lucent, including its Bell Labs research organization. The company then also experimented with virtual reality and digital health, the latter through the purchase of Withings. The Nokia brand has since returned to the mobile and smartphone market through a licensing arrangement with HMD Global. Nokia continues to be a major patent licensor for most large mobile phone vendors. As of 2018 Nokia is the world's third-largest network equipment manufacturer.
The company was viewed with national pride by Finns, as its mobile phone business made it by far the largest worldwide company and brand from Finland. At its peak in 2000, during the telecoms bubble, Nokia alone accounted for 4% of the country's GDP, 21% of total exports, and 70% of the Helsinki Stock Exchange market capital.

Just look at Huawei or Xiaomi.
Even someone like Sony which started i think in 1962 was a small company.
Well lets see what future have ready for us.

Anonymous, 14 Nov 2019If it is amoled screen stay away from it unless you want to die in front of burned in screen. No way as they are targeting only mid-range customer ($500-$700). But I hope there would be QLED version too.
Anonymous, 13 Nov 2019hmm, maybe I won't buy them, because I never heard Nokia got any reputation about display tech... moreThey might be using LG IPS or Samsung VA panel as other companies do, with a JBL speaker system. Price would be about $600.
If it is amoled screen stay away from it unless you want to die in front of burned in screen.
YUKI93, 13 Nov 2019I don't want to sound racist, but... why India? Remember Xiaomi's Pocophone F1? That was bound... moreBecause TV is actually produced by "FlipKart-India" with the name of NOKIA. A month back they launched Motorola TV too and all TVs sold out in few hours. Same situation for Mi tv too. In India smart TV market is keep growing.
Walter C. Dornez, 13 Nov 2019Ditto for the US. I'd like a Nokia TV, especially if it's priced competitivelyWell mee too.

Almost every home robot or machine have a samsung sticker on it.
I dont like because they are really costly.
Gandalfdenvite, 14 Nov 2019Is it "Nokia" or "HMD"?I believe its actually FlipKart. They are just making TVs and selling with different brand names. After Nokia, you will see VIVO and OPPO TVs. They launched Motorola TV, iFFalcon, Thomson, Marque TVs This year.

You are right probably.
We will see where this will continue.
Almand, 14 Nov 2019Discman? do those artifacts still exist?Man yes. Even vynl records and recorders exist and those are far older than discman.
That ancient thing was pretty new 15-20 years ago.
And 15-20 years ago is not ancient its just little past.
