Why does iOS need so much RAM?? Wasn't it supposed to be very 'optimised'
Duck of death, 23 Nov 2019"I hate people sharing their own opinions on the net... Now, here's MY opinion!...."There is a difference between opinion and truth.
and also ships iOS 14 with icon packs and system wide font choices and themes.
Anonymous, 24 Nov 2019Numbers? So im just supposed to pick up a random number that i just have to make up and that's... moreNo, you need numbers that come from a reliable source. If you want to tell me an issue is widespread you better come with actual facts, give us numbers/a percentage of people affected otherwise you are doing nothing but spewing a whole lot of hearsay. For example if a car has a recall due to an issue there is usually a figure given of how many are affected if it’s widespread. When an exploit is revealed in Android there is a number given of how many users are potential affected.
You are just here talking endlessly about a problem being widespread yet nothing to back up as to how widespread it is, how many users/devices are affected and what exact devices are affected.
If you don’t have any figures to backup your claims then there’s nothing wrong with admitting that you have not got a clue and are speaking from nothing but hearsay. The truth will set you free.
I'mPhone, 23 Nov 2019True. But Android is also prone to crashes. Unless it is stock Android, OS like Android OneUI ... moreAnd then the typical Apple lies comes. Instead of fixing your own issues you start making up things about better software.
R. D. F. in a nutshell.
AnonF-85937, 24 Nov 2019I never claimed the issues were or were not wide spread, if you have been paying attention to ... moreNumbers? So im just supposed to pick up a random number that i just have to make up and that's what qualifies as proof??
Yes to be allowed to state fact as fact means i have to know the exact number of people effected. Especially after years....... good grief.
Anonymous, 24 Nov 2019Do you have any proof to counter that? If you don't know how wide spread many issues were then... moreI never claimed the issues were or were not wide spread, if you have been paying attention to my posts I speak from MY EXPERIENCE, I don’t claim to know about others.
You on the other hand claim that issues are wide spread, you talk about articles that don’t quantify anything, you don’t give any numbers. Seeing as you are taking the stance of speaking for these other users, please provide the number of people affected, as YOU are claiming it is widespread surely YOU have the numbers and percentages of those affected, yeah? Please provide them, otherwise your argument is useless.
I am thoroughly enjoying both my iPhone XS Max and iPad Air 2, and not facing any issues with them.
Could you please provide us with the following:
- The number of users affected per iOS device
- The issues faced per iOS device
- How widespread this is exactly, seeing as you claim it’s widespread, please give us a number of those affected vs those not affected per device
Thanks. Looking forward to a full an factual read from your stats. That’s if you have any.

If you don't know how wide spread many issues were then you have very little experience with iphone, don't talk to many people that use one, and have very little experience with articles here and elsewhere.
Anonymous, 24 Nov 2019Those issues were often more wide spread than normal. Of course not everyone suffers.
Hopefu... moreDo you have any hardcore statistics to show that the issues were indeed widespread? As in what percentage of iPhone users were affected?
If not, your argument is invalid. Give us the numbers.

Hopefully one day many people get better optimized software. Until then ios 8s nowhere near as supremely optimized as it is romantized to be
Anonymous, 23 Nov 2019Oh wow.. . So because supposedl6 yours doesnt have any issues on the most recent update comple... moreI and many others don’t have any issues while others do, like any tech device, some have more bugs than others, not everyone’s experience is the same. I can’t admit to an issue I have not faced in my own experience. :)
My XS Max has been great, besides the stupid bug in 13.2.1 that broke multitasking for a little while, but that was fixed in 13.2.2 and now we are on 13.2.3, and thoroughly enjoying my iOS devices. :)
Just having a beer, 23 Nov 2019Your post is a nonsense. Do you know why? Because basic calculation indicates that if 4GB ram ... moreYour calculation is flawed. It assumes both that nothing else is running, and that the entire 4GB is required. At the least iOS and the camera app are using a reasonable chunk of RAM that doesn’t need to be duplicated across each of your doublings. It also doesn’t account for compression gains due to 1/120 frames being even more similar to each other than 1/60 frames.
As an example for comparison, my Essential PH-1 with no messenger apps, email accounts, or SIM, averages slightly over half of its RAM in use while idle.
Anonymous, 24 Nov 2019You cant compare updates like that.
First most androids are more advanced in software on man... moreThey are adding more RAM due to more Camera features coming, lol, nothing to do with iOS, iOS is efficient and light, the iPad Air 2 and iPhone 6S run iOS beautifully with 2GB RAM.
Camera features like furthering Deep Fusion along with AR features require more RAM though. iOS itself barely uses much RAM. :)
Anonymous, 23 Nov 2019Let's limit the discussion to iPhone since the article isn't about iPad pro.
IPad OS doesn't ... moreiOS and iPad OS are the same thing, iPad OS just has features activated. Much of what exists in iPad OS is enabled when an iPhone is Jailbroken anyway. :’D
Rather go back to Android topics, you’re clearly not well informed on iOS bud.

Apple needs to make the iPhone SE2 with an iPhone 5 body, the iPhone 8 is still too big. As an Android user, I would ditch Android in a heartbeat if Apple offered a reasonably sized phone again. I'm sick of all the phablets that have saturated the market and there's simply no choice anymore.
AnonF-85937, 23 Nov 2019The iPad Air 2 with iPad OS Multitasks just fine with 2GB RAM, this tablet was released in 201... moreYou cant compare updates like that.
First most androids are more advanced in software on many fronts from day one and out of box than an iPhone is after its last update.
Not to mention what this past update experience shows how the past many years have been with updates. Bug ridden rushed betas that you cant even revert from. And it would take many patches to fix.
And for a 5ish year period lead the world with most app crashes.
And the battery and ram that you all claimed was not needed are being bogged down with them. And even storage for a longer while.
And most if this is only being rectified with what? More storage, faster cpu, and more ram.
Anonymous, 23 Nov 2019Why did Apple remove customer reviews from its own website?Because the reviewers were not validated buyers, and were increasingly littered with hater rants as here, probably.

IPad OS doesn't work on iPhone. It runs iOS, don't go off topic.
