I would rather have a punch hole or notch than a mechanical pop-up front-facing camera as implemented by some Chinese phones.

there is a saying in my line of work: you can sell a piece of s....t as long as it is nicely packaged but not a piece of brilliant technology. reading the posts here... this saying is only overly confirmed...

Design is getting weirder. But feature wise also getting more powerful. I can forgive that. Not like if I own this phone I'm going to look at the back a lot. So it's fine.

That's more to do with the physics and there's not much technological advancement can help with here.

From that time frame, NO phone have that design.
Then the release of iPhone 11, Until now, TONS OF Squarish / rectangle phones pending to release or has released.
Now.. you see the power Samsung & Apple has over the rest? Samsung / Apple innovate, while the rest just COPIES.
Go back in time, see the first 'Notch phone' Essential or LG V10.. or even the LG X screen. Anybody copy those design?? NOOO. It only started the craze once Apple decided to go notch.
Now you know why people keep saying other companies keep copying Samsung and Apple.

Tech expect, 27 Nov 2019Your some requirements are backdatedThat is not true as a lot of competitors offer them. Its only from those greedy companies that remove all those extra features maintaining or even increasing their prices. Now all those featureless phones are more of the same a piece of glass with a buch of cameras in the most ugliest way possible.
So those phones still plenty of features like the microSD or even the new fast HFS ones, IrDa blaster, Headphone Jack, FM Radio, stereo speakers, Unlockable bootloaders, large camera sensors, etc. Those are the ones that i'll still buy. Like the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 that i hope get a 5G variant. The Mate 30 5G. And sure that others upcoming. There are still plenty of them in the market. Like the old Galaxy too. The way greedy companies removing features is the way to lose customers. Already Samsung did some steps back in the pass after poor sales, lets see what happen after next flop year with these horrible S11 phones... People will not change to their cheap overpriced mid-rangers from A series. Will dure change to another brand that offer all that in their flagships and premium phones.

Apple and Samsung are each extracting the wee wee, with Samsung extracting the most because they supply a lot of Apple's technology, as do LG. Samsung win either way, whether you buy an iPhone or a Galaxy. So they share a lot of tech (both use Sony sensors!) Hence their design model is similar because the components are similar, keeps the price down. TC is a supply chain guy, so knows how to do the deals.
Samsung cannot innovate really, only area they have is the Note series whose S-Pen and software is superb. But LG do more creative things, as do the new Chinese companies who are selling phones with NO notches or punch holes. This S11 is simply an iPhone 11 Pro running Android. Why not be innovative Samsung and offer a true full screen phone with no bezels and a flush periscope style camera?
