Let us all ignore "I'mPhone". He has been repeating the same thing over all of the Asus ROG comments. The issue he pointed out I have personally never seen before. But in all fairness, I was not a ROG Gen 1 user. I used iPhone X and switched to ROG Phone 2. In terms of update, that was never an issue for me. Most of the time, it is the back up processes that gets updated and some feature that Android and Apple fans will always compare but doesn't bother me.
I will say it outright. Yes, the iPhones will outperform ROG Phone 2. But I agree on the sustain part. In order to use my iPhone X for gaming, I have to forego a protective case. Simply because the phone heats up very very fast. Once thermal throttling kicks in, goodbye to my game. I am playing COD Mobile and after 2 rounds of Battle Royale with my protective case on, the iPhone X start frame skipping even better than my nephew on a skipping rope. For ROG Phone 2, it maintained at 37-39 degrees celsius from when I am full battery and I played until I am 40% battery. (ROG Phone 2 users will know that is very very long).
All in all, get what you think is important. Software update not too much of a concern. I am sure most of the people change phones once every 2-3 years.
Oh and lastly, "I'mPhone" I am surprised you compared the ROG Phone to an iPad. With the same logic, can I take a ROG LAPTOP to compare to the iPad?
This product is a perfect example of why Gen-1 products are always a risky investment and Gen-2 are better.
I think the same analogy can apply to foldable smartphones too. Compromises right now outweigh the advantages of having a foldable display, and fewer people are willing to live with such compromises.
Example: Some of the compromises with the excellent Galaxy Fold are:
1) Higher than the prices of phones with same/similar specs by a huge margin, almost double ($9180 vs $1000).
2) Reduced durability compared to a standard smartphone
3) A huge notch on the right end of the display. It seems a bit unnecessary to me personally.
4) The display outside is too small, the display inside is too big.
5) You have to learn to ignore the crease.
There are a bunch of disadvantages with the iconic foldable Moto Razr too
1) Very high price of $1500 for specs on offer.
2) SD710 is upper-midrange at best. And I am being gracious.
3) Smallish 6.2 inch display at 21:9 aspect ratio (so smaller than other 6.2 inch displays with 19:9 ratio in the display area) with a huge notch.
4) Single rear camera, with midrange optics.
5) Very small battery, (~2500 mAH), has to power two displays.
6) New hinge design, even though is excellent in folding the phone flat, is still untested when it comes to durability.
Mate X too has its own set of disadvantages, but you know where this is going.

No air triggers, no ecosystem for gaming accessories, no thermal cooling.
Enjoy that bendable iPad.

Which also bent over sensitive touch sensors that then lead from anything to lines, dead spots in visual or touch, or even the display going out. Cause it just so happened that before the 6 there was a stronger shielding over those sensors. And in later line up sheeet the issues that didnt exist according to apple was reinforced again. But on those models was a weak plastic film basically.
But there was no structural issues according to them. Not until some 2 to 4 years later. At which it was finally an issue but just mean that the user dropped it.... but out of the kindness of their hearts you could get the repair half off.
Then another year or two later internal documentation showing they knew about the weak point all along before release.... shocking.... was surfaced.

Both are fantastic devices and comparing them is like comparing apples to oranges. I just pointed out that there's no reason to downplay ROG phone's performance and promote your favourite brand's device here.
I'mPhone, 29 Nov 2019The iPad Pro is not the same as the iPhone. The iPad has an aluminium back which dissipates... moreI already know this. But that alone might not let it sustain as long as what the thermal implementations on these gaming inches achieve in prolonged sessions

The iPad has an aluminium back which dissipates heat faster at the cost of user comfort (like the Black Shark 2), and has a bigger size. Its chipset and GPU is still more potent (A12X is still more powerful than A13, but may be less efficient). It is the equivalent of buying a higher-range (but not high end) laptop (mid gen intel Core i7).
Software support is limited too. Mod the software and warranty will get cancelled. Again as I said, reliability is an issue. Go look at ZenTalk forum saying the Asus ROG Phone 1 screen cracks from the inside (maybe display panel), but manufacturer won't even fix it, blaming their customers instead. The person ensured its outside is in pristine condition. Dust can also enter the phone, some users confirmed this. While an iPad Pro can break easily, it will last long if handled with care.
Go have fun with that ugly brick, the so called "gaming phone". Looks awesome but pathetic and bitter experience at the end.

They may be ios but they are completely designed differently.
The iPad's large size and aluminium body allows for heat dissipation. Also, the iPad Pro has an octa-core processor.
While the iPhone is fast but heats up quickly, the iPad is a different story. It is even faster and heats up less quickly. Yes they are bigger and more restricted, but software-wise they're also more certain.
Enjoy your ugly brick you pathetic Fandroid that assumes Apple is rubbish. If you are really into Android might as well grab the OnePlus 7 or try that Sharp Aquos Zero 2.

And i doubt the ipad could sustain the performance as long. The only thing that ipad would have over the rog 2 is display size. And more updates. But as history has shown us time and time again ios updates are often not something to brag about.

Yes, there are devices with more powerful chipset out there. But none of them won't provide a sustainable performance over a long time especially iPhones which are notorious for dropping performance after a period of time. Man this phone is just crap.
Think of the reliability issues (screen crack, dust entering camera, etc.).
iPad Pro is still faster in terms of gaming (despite having a weak aluminium body). A12X Bionic is still more powerful than the Sd855+. Both devices are capable of 120Hz as long as the app supports it.
There is a lack of support from the actual devs itself (the latter relying on XDA Developers to mod the software which can cancel the phone's warranty).
Poor residuals, the Tencent version will be a tough sell (because of Chinese software, although it doesn't mean you can't change the language settings). Think of the Chinese version nubia RedMagic 3.
Still wanna buy this rubbish? Not trying to troll or mock ROG Phone users here but unfortunately it is not great in the long run. Many users have complained in forums so think twice before you buy it.

It is beyond worth it and matches or surpasses other phonea in almost every way. And its already on android 9 with a well optimized build. So what if it takes a little longer for a number change??
Especially the Tencent version for only $560usd.
asus seriously need to work on their updates. i have cousins who used their mid-range to upper midrange zenfones before and were always behind with updates. i was going to get the rog phone 2 next month but then i am reminded of this fact.
I wanted to buy ROG Phone 2 but now I have serious doubts. I won't be paying that much money and not get android updates
Why don't they skipped 9 to just directly update to 10?🤔
They are definitely a little behind. But in fairness they offer some of the best specs to cost ratio. Especially the rog 2 tencent. And they do have some deep level hardware and software coding to work with compared to others.
Honestly, i was already given up so it's still good news eventhough ridiculously delayed... better late than ever :)
