My first android phone i bought in September 2012

They started doing it bcos of profit. Glass Phones are more fragile and leads to more breakage thus more money to Samsung in replacements. Same with non removable battery.
Seeing a picture of the S III next to the S II and Galaxy Nexus makes me yearn for those sizes. And back in 2012, those phones probably felt big to me coming from an iPhone 4 and Nexus One. It took me over a year to get comfortable using the HTC One M7. And I didn't really get comfortable using phones with a "5 display until 2017. So it took me 4 years!
I wish Samsung still offered the material used on the back of the S II and GNex. My cousin gave me his Nexus 4 and it's a dream to hold. Has the same display size as an iPhone 6/7/8 and HTC One M7 but like 4 mm shorter. It's one of the most comfortable phones to hold while still maintaining a big enough screen to type on quickly.
By 2017, everything became large. Very few phones have the size I want. And I personally loved 2017 as a year as I was happy alot except didn't care for it in phones. And Sony made the last true compact phone with the XZ1 Compact released in late-2017. The XZ2C is too chubby.
Among Android phone sizes I want, it's slim pickings...
Essential Phone (have it)
Google Pixel (used to have it)
Google Pixel 2
Google Pixel 3 (have it)
Nokia 8 Sirocco
Samsung Galaxy S10e
Only the Sirocco among what I don't own has pure Android and wireless charging I want but then that hideous curved display. Seems like I'll be stuck using Pixel 3 for awhile.
Still have mine in white and before the switch to my current device in july this year I used it for a full 2 weeks without any problems. It didn't even feel extremly dated.
my mother used s3 mini till july this year. The phone is still ok, just needs replacing new battery. It is indestructible.
Al-Aqsa Lover, 03 Dec 2019no it was qhd only800 x 1280 is not qHD..
remember my friend first buy it, he was so proud of his device at the time..... now its spec even worse than a galaxy J6 2016 hahahaha. which less than $100 dollar phone now.
HgA, 02 Dec 2019Maybe one of the ugliest phones of the history.Yes, you can only say that in 2019 for 2012 phones ..
i really like this handset, great all rounder.
i had the special release version in aus which was the 32gb 3g variant. 4g was just released and not many towers at the time.
purchased an extended battery and 3 days heavy usage was great, sad news when it fell out of my bag in a carpark and got ran over. cost was way over the top to repair even though it survived and i could still connect to it via USB.
perfect size form factor and storage options. was thinking of getting one jsut for the kicks and install lineage OS.
Maybe one of the ugliest phones of the history.
"The Samsung Galaxy S III was the first phone to feature an HD Super AMOLED display"
What about Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 (first Note) from 2011, also HD Super Amoled.
yeah, it was great. good old days...
It's odd back then how so many tech reviewers kept complaining about Samsung's plastic build quality. By them doing that, it ruined the industry because we are now stuck with glass rears and no more removable battery. What's sad is most of them were probably iPhone users who loved design and were enjoying metal builds.
I prefer metal over plastic but I prefer plastic over glass rears. And metal isn't great with signal either. It's weird how people say how strong the original Nokia 3310 is. It was made of strong plastic like the original Game Boy was. I wished Samsung never listened to those shallow reviewers. We would still have removable battery to this day.
