Simon, 08 Dec 2019Looking back I'm still in disbelief at how hard Nokia failed. Pretty much every decision they ... moreIt happened because of Elope, the mole has done a very distroyng contract with microsoft, in.which Nokia was not allowed to to any other type of smartphones besides Windows Phones for quote some time, when they woke up and saw what eflop is doing, was way to late.

I had the Nokia N900, Maemo OS, monster of a phone, but the apps lacked so much, no portrait mode, repositories etc all for simple everyday apps was such a hassle. I used it for about 3 years then switched to galaxy note 2, I've been a note user since then.

Hello Life, 08 Dec 2019what are you talking about? It's not space science. if there are enough people to buy a phone ... moreMaybe, but nope. A new OS won't be adopted at the level you are talking about. Will take a lot of time to be adopted and mature...and a lot of money, yes probably huaway has the money to do that but it does not have the influence on peoples mind... i, for sure won't buy, as i do not support anything being chinese brand.

I owned its predecessor for awhile, the N900, and quite liked. Fortunately I lost it in nightclub. Waaah!

Android is still trying to be that system, while ios is copying it's futures, and you come here with "had no chance" it had too much actually, was to good to be light.

You know what the N9 is? The beginning of pure Linux phone because if you check the history, it becomes what is now known as Sailfish OS. And that's not alone, there are also smartphones running on pure Linux out-of-the-box such as Purism Librem 5 or the developer-focused PinePhone.

Sure you can say that Android is also Linux, but that's only the kernel and not the whole OS itself.

Anonymous, 08 Dec 2019Huawei can't create a os out of nothing suddenly even it backed up by whole China government .... moreHuawei is not Nokia and not Microsoft and today is not 2009!
Tech now is way ahead. And ppl doing OS as well. Huawei are backed by China gov which means they have more cash tha microsoft and nokia combined. So OS will be made and will catch up android not in 10 years,, ut more like 2-3

I owned this phone back in the day. The user experience was unbeatable. The form-factor combined with the swipe gesture was definitely ahead of the competition at the time. Given proper backing, it definitely would have been great competition for iOS/Android.

GSMArena also gave the Nokia N9 the best review tagline ever...

I still have my N9 64gb, and despite most apps ceasing to work, I still hoick it or every now and again and every time I do, I wonder about what could have been. It is still my favourite smartphone, both in terms of size and OS. Miles ahead of its time. Sailfish is a reasonable successor but their phones and OS still don’t feel complete.

Good camera. Killed of by launching too late (Meego no chance against Android or IOS), and by lack of apps (did not matchvthe customers needs)

Hats off to the WRITER and GSMARENA , U GUYS ROCK. The other day I was telling my friends about the N9 MEEGO. .How Android copied some of its features so does iOS, as MEEGO really had some big improvements in Maemo.
I'm pretty sure if Meego was developed properly it could have easily ended some upgrade issues with Android..
Such a beauty N9 was and that's what u call INVENTION not improvement. .
Seriously if HMD could think about taking this O.S into consideration I would luv to buy New Nokia. Sailfish was a dud but Meego was one refreshing step ahead of ANDROID AND IOS. . Pity it was killed . .

Nokia demise has killed many technologies. Specially camera tech. Sad for industry and consumers.
Microsoft is a white in phone industry. It was such a stupid decision at Nokia's part to go with Microsoft.
