I wish nokia 1520 with 8gb ram and borderles display
Shifted to the 950 after they quit support on the 800. Bought a new phone about 1 week ago, first not Nokia (I count the 950 as one) since my first phone. First android, I'v had a corporate Apple and Blackberry. Within 2 days the android got me annoyed. The Lumia was the best phone I had, simple to use, no endlesly amount of options. They should have turned the phone into somesort of "key" allowing you to enter your "MS-office-cloud" through universal dockings.
"Microsoft was very strict"
Like if you still find this design nice
Huge failure because of Windows phone itself. Microsoft kiiled this phone. Hardware wise was great, one of the last high end Nokia devices
i still use one, from launch day .battery replaced
Still looks better than all the phones of today. Now everything looks the same on the front, just huge displays. There's no differentiation.
Anonymous, 16 Dec 2019I enjoyed the very smooth interface of this OS even on modest specs. I had a Lumia 1520 and it... moreI enjoyed the featureset of Windows Mobile a lot more than any "app ecosystem". Besides what people mean by "ecosystem" is just a central app-store. Who needs that? There isn't a central app-store on PC's yet that never stopped the rise of PC's.
WP-devices were severely crippled, which was the main reason of their failure.
AnonD-889996, 15 Dec 2019The problem why WP failed: iOS has ecosystem, Android has customization, and WP has a lot rest... moreThe irony is that nowadays the restrictions and lack of necessary features are more and more appearing on Andriod.
Supposedly "high end" phones without audio jacks, the loss of IR-blasters, loss of user-replaceable battery, removal of call-recording, etc... In the meantime increasing prices. Manufacturers are killing Android by themselves!
Larry , 15 Dec 2019Cheap plastic and boring os with no apps, no wonder it has poor sales. Waste of money if peopl... moreclearly you never get your hand on one of these device...
my N9 did not feel cheap at all...
I enjoyed the very smooth interface of this OS even on modest specs. I had a Lumia 1520 and it was a very reliable daily driver compared to Androids of that time with similar specs. The app ecosystem is what's lacking. I'm fine with the tiles btw, it's not like I'm staring at my phone's homescreen for hours
If they had launched that thing with the exact same N9 body and android instead It would've been a great success
can not remember what happened! MS’s behavior: facile surely, MS could have made great third player in world of smartphone
I wish Microsoft had continued Windows Phone OS
I was using Lumia 520 with WP 8 that time and i really enjoyed the User Interface very much
Windows Phone looks good on the cyan and magenta if you closely match the tile colors. But Meego seemed more elegant and looked better with a black N9.
Both OSes just didn't have the apps to succeed. I was on WP for a couple of years. Always got relegated to a multimedia device and nothing else.
No torrent apps. No DoorDash app. The concept was cool in the beginning. The execution just wasn't there because the developers simply didn't want to create essential apps for it.
Nokia Lumia 800 - Concept Design
These were the brightest times in the smartphone industry!
AnonD-889996, 15 Dec 2019The problem why WP failed: iOS has ecosystem, Android has customization, and WP has a lot rest... moreNo real innovation? flat design started with Windows Phone, it was called Metro UI, now flat design is every where and i hate it, but more than that, the interface itself was different, it have functions without going into apps, it was and still is better interface than iOS and Android, but the ecosystem is the king.
Good times it was when we had 3 to 6 mobile software ecosystem. We had symbian, meego, android, ios blackberry and windows. meego and windows was unique in their own way and had very nice user friendly interface. Unfortunately now left with ad based android and subscription based ios. Sad....
