Unlikely this news is either fake or exaggerated.
ARM hasn't even announced the A78 core's details and Huawei is already working on it? Samsung Foundry, Arm and Synposys announced a collaboration, so if anyone has accesss to A78's architecture before it is announced, it would be Samsung. And that is perhaps why Samsung is dumping the inefficient Mongoose cores, and directly working at improving things by working with improving their SoCs with the best possible ARM core arrangement.
And qualcomm beat again with SD875 with good margin due to 5nm+EUV I think adreno 700 series beat it without breaking sweat.
It would be over 50% performance gain I think , if not at least 30% gain but far ahead then Kirin next gen.
Anyone know Exynos's AMD gpu beat qualcomm next gpu.
I've tried mate 8 and I'm using mate 10 now and I can say that Huawei phones are fast enough and I really don't care if they going to boost the performance further because I know it won't be free. If there is no improvement in energy-efficiency I'm not interested as simple as that.

what would be interesting to see from Huawei is if they used the new IMG A-seried gpus instead of Arm Mali's.

I don't care. What about 600mbit 12 bit 8k, or raw bayer. Licensing is not that expensive you couldn't license per person that pays a fee to activate the feature. Cineform is free, and cineform raw only requiresva $20 license, which is less than some phone camera apps.
Because a78 is designed in UK. Not in US. So huawei jumped straight in to a78

And next gen soc in 2020 well use Mali g77 gpu which will at mi... moreMali G76 can be scaled up to a whopping 20 cores which theoretically should beat Adreno 640 when the Mate 30, Note10 and Mate 20 uses 16, 12 and 10 cores respectively. The problem is that those 3 phones still have mediocre cooling capabilities which causes the GPUs to throttle, leading to their true, sustained performance. ROG P2 and Oppo Reno 10x Zoom are the very few phones that don't throttle.
According to Antutu leaks, it seems that Mali G77 MP11 in the S11 have beaten Adreno 650. Seems like ARM is finally good.
Cortex-A78 hasn't even been announced nor does the naming exist yet and there's already rumours of Huawei already planning to use it. Samsung's Exynos 1000 is also rumoured to use the same microarchitecture. Kirin 1020 is repeating history again like the Kirin 980 in which they skipped A75. Nothing really special to see here but it'll be a true upgrade for users who want to change Kirin to Kirin.
