LG Superfan, 27 Dec 2019Anyone even records in 4k? yeah

Note 10 series has best stabilization on the market.
Only iPhones do 4k 60fps properly, lol get out a little more, Android did 4k 60fps way back and properly without compromises.
If it's just 4K 60fps that you care about, then why not have a phone with 4K HDR 60Hz OLED screen to watch it with?
Oh, it's because your phone doesn't have it.
Now stop asking for something that you can't even enjoy on your phone with an unnecessary screen cutout.
They left out 4K 60fps because Android flagship chipsets aren't capable enough yet to offer stabilization at such resolution and frame rate with high bit rate for the format.
Maybe next year we'll see more of them.

Then with the unlocked camera api on the Xperia 1 & 5, why don't you find a camera app that'll work for it?
Besides, 4K@60fps is an absolute mess for most Android phones. Only iPhones could take great 4K@60fps clips with good stabilization and dynamic range, and that's mainly because of the underlying powerful SoC that no Android phone currently has.
Instead, Sony gives us 4K HDR. The chipset is also capable of handling it, but why is your Samsung and others not capable of handling it?
On a different note, obviously grammatical mistakes need to be addressed first, because that's basically the way of pointing out our statements clearly to each sides.
I'd understand if it was a really complicated English text, but a simple difference between "your" and "you're" is such a ridiculous mistake, even for non-English native speakers.
So if you can't correctly express your statements in English, then definitely it's not worth talking back when there might be misinterpretations to what you are saying.
It's as important as being able to ssve a life by saying "Let's eat, dad!" Instead of "Let's eat dad!"
Anonymous, 27 Dec 2019If you read the specs of mobile sensors, you will see none of them can do 8K.
Sony says imx58... moreYet they are doing it on Asus and other phones. Pushing past the specs is an old trick. But looking at the actual specs it can pull in off the sensor 8k frames at video rates. You then can output or compress them.
Yes, heat is an issue, which is why you design a phone for it when you want to do it. But nothing to stop you doing as much resolution and datarate as a phone can properly handle. But, there is compression and there is compression, and dedicated hardware goes a long way to reducing heat. The latest jpeg stuff applied to Bayer frames would be interesting. It's not old jpeg 1. Back to heat. Configuring the hottest part of the main board next time the case allows a thermal cooling solution to be incorporated into special cases. You can basically stretch things a bit for extra performance. However, as far as what can be done, the latest ambarella chipsets energy to performance ratio gives a good indication. Cineform is regarded as a very light processing pro codec that can happily run on CPU's. So, high end phones could do 4k+ using it. But a little hardware it could do higher again on lower energy. However, I don't know what can be done with GPU's with that. But don't get hung up on 8k, we are also talking about lower resolution. Future generations of hardware should support better codecs aswell. Android just needs to make choices to support the maximum phones can do.
Anonymous, 27 Dec 2019Duh there are third party apps that allow you to get over this limitation. All the while Sony is giving you that ability straight from the stock camera app.
Anyways, Sony camera app has pretty much never put any sort of time limitation for video recording on their phones for years already, and it went way back from when this limit has started, and others are just playing the catch up game.
This, my dude, explains why Sony is a true pioneer in the mobile industry. They don't make the absolute best smartphones, that's for sure, but let's not deny that many of their contributions paved way for the improvement of our today's smartphones. Let's just give the credit where it's truly due.

Where users have a choice instead of being forced to deal with limitations put by software.
I hope you can bypass the 4k 30fps limit and use 4k 60fps using a third party app or some custom ROM.

Sony says imx58... moreDisagree, only phones without any cooling get hot during 4k. (Still manageable holding the hot device, it's not like you have to put it down or performance of recorded video suffers)
Most of the gaming phones with built in cooling and latest 855 don't break a sweat during 4k 60fps.

If it was from a high end video camera, you'll notice considerable difference in footage.
4k 60fps is super smooth compared to 4k 30fps and gives a noticeable difference.

Matter of choice.
They chose instead to give 24fps, framerate used for movies.

Anonymous, 27 Dec 2019Who still records in anything less than 4k lol.I do I record at 720p and why use 4k when most of the sharing is on 720p or less and there is obvious benefit of 4k for mobiles
I've never encounter this limitation and i'm using "old" Zenfone 3 Zoom with Oreo, one of my recorded vids even reach 11 GB in size, lol.
Apple articles. But ridden updates and earning too much.
Android. Missing feature being addressed.
Apple users. Android is crap and iOS is God.
Hmm?
TheGoldenMellifluous, 27 Dec 2019Well, at least they give you the option 4K HDR video recording to lessen the sting if not all.... moreWell-said, however, you didn't really have to waste that much precious time on a brainless troll over the internet who haven't even taken proper grammar lessons on school.
I'd bet my Christmas Gifts that that person probably didn't even understand a single thing about what you've said.
But hey, let people enjoy things, eh? :))
Anonymous, 27 Dec 2019Sony can't even shoot 60FPS @ 4k.
Don't run your mouth when your still stuck on 30FPS lol.We can do 1080p@60fps still, which is very fine to watch on your mediocre 1080p screen smartphones.
Don't use internet when you still don't know the difference between "your" and "you're" :)))
