AnonD-731363, 29 Dec 2019Android is googler but Harmony is Huawei. Like when Myspace has been prevauiled by Facebook ... moreYou hate apple, you hate google. You hate everyone but the Chinese brands cos they are cheap. Let me remind you that without Apple and Google Huawei would be nothing. And without them Huawei is and will be nothing. Nobody trusts them and they haven't developed anything.Huawei just plagiarises. Without nobody to plagiarise they will disappear.
What you don't understand is that with Google going down Apple will go up! Not Huawei.
Samsung and google are allies. Lg and Google are allies. LG and Samsung are allies with Apple! See latest TV's. My OLED C9 has airplay 2 built in and apple TV confirmed. Samsung is the same with their QLEDs. They develop standards together.
Huawei is not a company that is able to pioneer. They just play the game other companies invent.

Rokka, 30 Dec 2019Android is open source lolAOSP codebase is open source but regulated by Google. No one can commit changes to the codebase without Google's explicit approval. They can push it in any direction they want. For eg. Manifest v3 in case of chromium. A hard fork is the only solution but that comes with its own headaches.

I absolutely root for Huawei as Trump is an evil hypocrite. More alternatives in the marketplace is always a great thing anyway. Go Huawei!!!!

Yeah. In layman terms, AOSP is 100% open source.

But the customisation + most apps are not. That is the bread and butter of each phone makers. Once people start installing apps, that's not 100% open source anymore. And when its not open source, you can't be sure what's going on..

I have yet see a fully 100% open source phone that is of any use to end users. Once you tweak the security aspect of the OS, it's close most likely, to prevent reverse engineering or hacking. To say Android is 100% open source is a silly statement.

Anonymous, 30 Dec 2019Android it’s not a 100% open source OS google it.You're the one should google it. Android is open source hence Huawei still able to use it for Mate 30/pro even though Hauwei is banned. Google service framework is proprietary, not open source. So Android phone in the west without gps is 90% useless unless you're a pirated-loving geek users lol.

I think Samsung talking to Huawei just to put some pressure on Google for better deal tho.

Btw, they can just simply use both GMS and HMS in a phone on transitions phase (1-3 years), offer migration tools, and slight discount (5%) on phone with both services installed. Just $10 prices difference =< $200 phones will enough to sway 80% buyer IMHO. Just make sure HMS is lightweight enough to not gives noticeable performance penalty.

In this era, when everything is opensourced, i feel HMS can be managable. IE is also based on chromium.

It would be nice to have options but I've got to say that there's a lot to be done to replace the Google services.

ecosystem is more than just good app and adaptation to new thing. but i'd liked to see how huawei will build their own ecosystem
