Maybe, just maybe, it'll have nothing to do with phones. People here are sure obsessed woth phones. Sony is a giant in every sense. They make everything from audio to video. Phones aren't the center of the tech world, regardless of what you think. I love Sony, couldn't care less about their phones, but it's my all time fave brand. Looking forward to what they have in store.

And by other products, from TV to Audio System, Sony made it to my home. Sadly i've been dissapointed with their smartphone lineup. Hopefully 2020 will be a great year for Xperia.

i might jump ship ... morethere are compromises... some people are okay with ads as long as they buy cheap...
that is one of the reasons i get sony flagships... anyway, their prices go down faster... or at least they have good bundles... light weight os, and the device has longer lifespan... z5 premium is still my workphone... backed up by a z1 compact... i am a not so "buy the new xperia" type of fan... i am like "buy only xperia if the old xperia wants to retire"...

Imx220 (z1 - z4) was used by one meizu and willyfox only. Sensor from 2013 while phones from 2015 were using newer.
Imx300 (z5 - xa2) : no other brand had. Sensor used by flagships for 3 semesters while other got newer sensors.
Imx400 (xzp - xz3) : no one else had, used for 2 years.
Imx445 : only x1 has
Imx563 : xperia 5 and sharp r3 only
Almost all other companies buy new sensors for main camera every year. They have their own approach.
They are not going to give ultra HDR processed photos with fake looking, so fake that even the best Full Frame or Medium Format wont ever give because it is unreal.
It is impossible to use HDR without fake looking. That is a fact ...
Go to dxomark and download the photos from any phone. Even those with highest score still give same wax skin and watercolour effect of phone with lower score.
Someone that works for a company that makes phones told me phone makers could do better photos from prototypes, but in the end put weaker software because it is cheaper.

Sony had a chance catering to the fans of their own brand, but they failed majorly due to internal catfights. The Alpha department didn't want Sony phones to have great camera in fear of cannibalization, so they were withholding technologies and information. Thus we have Sony sensors used by everyone, but Sony phones have arguably the worst image quality compared to the others using the same sensors.
