Jojo, 04 Jan 2020Crap. I thought this was for the front camera. Who cares about the back. Who looks at the back... moreEven though I would hope that this is a "teaser" and the real revelation will be an invisible camera at the front, most probably the technology ATM cannot do it reliably, therefore the first step is to do it at the back side (where is much simpler)

The Nokia N8 had somewhat of a similar technology where the camera lens was hidden by a mechanical shutter which open as soon as you opened the camera application. That was such a cool featured that amazed me every time I used it. The overall technology implemented in their smartphones were ahead of it's time.

So basically, it uses the same technology as an Electronic Variable ND, to completely hide the cameras.

It's a neat trick.

abwx, 03 Jan 2020when it works, it contributes nothing when it fails, the camera doesn't work It contributes to make the phone more expensive. So it gives them the excuse to increase the price again until they release, at least, two above $1000 phones a year. They'll do sooner than later. The old OnePlus is history... Now if the Premium OnePlus but with fake materials in their alleged premium phones.

Anonymous, 03 Jan 2020Ouch, now we will have a reduced battery time due to hide the cameras with an electronic glass... moreI think they work the other day around. The glass is clear when a vintage is applied

Hopefully the concept is better than it looks. This looks rather mediocre, to put it politely.

Ouch, now we will have a reduced battery time due to hide the cameras with an electronic glass ... in addition to adding another layer blurring the images.

The more layers you put in front of the camera, the worse image quality it will produce. It's bad enough these camera sensors are tiny, and they need all the light they can get. But let's add another layer of stuff over it.
