Understand that Foxconn wanted 5 years without paying any tax.
India has a lot of cellphone users, Android sells a lot in India, its big market for Xiaomi, RealMe. Samsung, Oneplus etc, Apple is well-known player but the prices are premium. so only few people go for iphones, but given India's population, the few is also huge.

OnePlus is the most selling premium phone here. I'm sure that a large portion of the OP buyers could afford an iPhone. Indians like to save money so unless they are teens they won't buy an expensive product. Here, people buying an iPhone are the only ones who don't know a thing about value for money and they are simply rich.

I am from poor country as well. Here average salary is 600 EUR, but my salary is 350 eur. Get my point ?
So more like $160 is my guess average person in india montly salary. Which is 160/31 makes 5$ a day, BUT you have bills,taxes,household money,and stuff. And than what is left is what you can freely spent. And it goes to 1 or 2 USD per day for free spent.
World is simple place. Simple thinking is the right calculation! :)
