1500$ will keep people off so badly. The specs and design are "meh", but wouldnt keep people from buying it, the price does...Samsung will take the crown once they release the clamshell foldable - it will be 2000$ Im sure, but the specs and design will be there.

The Mi Mix Alpha was only announced. And it was announced not as a new model for the mainstream market, but as a concept device that will be made in a extremely limited quantity for those especially interested.
Moto's launch date for razr was rumored to be January 24th at some point. A pre-order date was also communicated by Moto, but then postponed due to the high demand. I guess they want to have as many as possible available at launch.
Perhaps they assume those wanting this device will loose interest if missing out on the first batch and having to wait and then it's no longer the "newest" device and hype is lost. A important part for their demographic for this device most likely.

Just look at Xiaomi with their Mi Mix Alpha, they also launched that phone last year. Are we still seeing it for real? No, not even one. Heck, Xiaomi even delayed the production of it.
