If this is true, then its gonna be a big blow...for the current mango users..
man those millions who bought lumia phones in the US will feel they got finxxxed by nokia and microsoft, and way to start for both! actually i was wondering how a a device with 1ghz cpu and 512mb ram could handle apollo which uses more or les the same karnel for the ARM version of windows!
Ha ha another epice fail for nokia and windows. They need a divorce and quick.Dumped again like meego and other failed nokia attempts.
arun, 18 Apr 2012I do not think Nokia would agree with MS(being their largest manufacturer) if MS is designing ... moreYes, its too early to form an opinion on the update. especially when MS hasnt released any official confirmation.
However, i dont think Nokia is in a position to 'force' MS to change things. keeping in mind, the development has already started, its not wise to change the design now. Also, there are other OEM ready to manufacture devices as directed by MS. Samsung is all geared up for Win 8, i believe HTC and LG are also interested.
All this is a lie. google planted this article among other the other day.
money under the table. googlöe is a force from the darkside. 1984 by georg orwell is about google.
dont use google searches, stop gmail using and no more ypou tube
yah right, their market share is so small and they still dare to leave older devices owners behind apollo wall. Stupid move microsoft, i doubt i will upgrade to newer headset, i'll move to android os.
Anonymous, 18 Apr 2012ya sure, the GS2 will get ICS like the Galaxy S got the ICS update.
Wake up man!! Google ca... moreI am sorry, but what did you say?
Have you considered the fact that MS directs the H/w restrictions for WP devices? and There are new H/w 'rules' for win8 as well.
at this point of time no one has information on how the Win8 shall be 'interacting' with the h/w (as its touted to have different approach than Wp7).
and the link you have given doesnt give any concrete information, thats clearly written there. do give another read.
updating across platforms - could be with Apps (as said by the verge) not the entire o/s.
And yes, Samsung with GS update has a choice, bcoz Andorid is open, Google laid NO restrictions on the h/w. Most importantly, Samsun sold over 10 million Galaxy S handsets, it made enough business.
This may not be the case with Nokia, its already sinking and doesnt have an option to gamble with new WP devices. In their current situation, they have send an update to the existing userbase.
understandable that the first windows phone 7 devices won't get the update.
but the new lumias? this is suicide microsoft
"so i'm stuck in 2011/2012 forever? not gonna buy this, let's take an iphone" says the normal user.
thanks for ruining our reputation even more, you're so skilled in that
blueglue, 18 Apr 2012Probably you should learn more about WP. MS has clearly marked the H/W requirements for WP7 /7... moreI do not think Nokia would agree with MS(being their largest manufacturer) if MS is designing the WP8 not to work with current lumia range, they would at least force MS to make WP8 work with 900 (& 800 hopefully). And MS has specifically told that the WP8 will run on lower hardware than the current phones, so I think updating lumia range to WP8 would not be much of a problem.
In any case, I feel its too early to decide if the lumia range will be updated or not, as WP8 is currently in development.
People!! Everything what is from MS in last 20 years is of short breath!
I am old user of MS software (30 y.) but after all I must say this!
AnonD-2349, 18 Apr 2012ya it will surely get jelly beans and even key lime pie ( if thats the name of the next ver )
... moreya sure, the GS2 will get ICS like the Galaxy S got the ICS update.
Wake up man!! Google cant force an update on the device, Samsung has to do it, and if Sammy decides against it then there will not be any update. Do u think GS does not have hardware power to run ICS, it does, but Samsung decided against the update.
Similarly if MS releases WP8, Nokia has to decide which devices get the WP8
Check this link before making assumptions:
AnonD-1319, 18 Apr 2012Well i dont buy my devices based on updates but in features, apos and speed. Its not wise too ... moreme neither. at the same time its not wise to buy a device knowing that there isnt any update for it in future. All you shall be left with is few bug fixes and minor patches (if at all)
arun, 18 Apr 2012@vnn This is like fighting now for what devices will be updated to Android 5.0.
The differe... moreProbably you should learn more about WP. MS has clearly marked the H/W requirements for WP7 /7.5.
If Win8 is coded to run on specific h/w (which is not identical to WP7.5)then there isnt anthing OEM can do.
Well i dont buy my devices based on updates but in features, apos and speed. Its not wise too buy a device expecting for An update.
AnonD-44227, 18 Apr 2012how does that make sense? when Engadget is reporting that they WILL be getting it? http://www.... moreRevisit the link you have posted, there is an update.
Lets wait till MS releases an official statement , which i guess will not be doing soon.
Arjun, 18 Apr 2012"Existing Hardware wouldnt support the Apollo" - You have got to be kidding me.. Apo... moreThats not true at all!! Mango is meant to take wp to lower midrange with 256 mb ram and less powerfull processors while apollo is meant to take wp to high end specs like multiple processors and hd display...engadget also updated their news
stop worrying guys, nokia lumia 710,800 & 900 will be getting windows phone 8 update. got confirmation from a guy who works for nokia in r&d centre.
Typical Microsoft!! Backwards capatability, what's that? This will ruin overnight all sales of phones with the Windows OS. Nice!!!!
