They are in the same position now, like Microsoft/Nokia was in 2016, we all know what happened to Windows Mobile 10, and those rare phones with same os, history but now. Maybe they will continue to sell only in China their phones (also, without GS), soon, who knows. Son't know why US do that to number 2 world largest OEM in mobile industry, right now.
And about above comment, well, you can always share your opinion about that, why so many sub-brands from Chinese OEMs in the last 3-4 years..
Anonymous, 21 Jan 2020Xiaomi +Black sharkThe thought did cross my mind but I'm not sure Black Shark is a 'sub-brand', instead of just being a gaming lineup under Xiaomi. Like Rog Phones from Asus.

Redmi ... moreMakes me wonder why Apple's iPhone can still hold its value and didn't lose or depreciate a lot despite being launched more than a year ago. Oh sure lots of brand means lots of choice, but choosing that one perfect device would be far from easy. Some Android phone have features that you really want to have or use but not available on your current Android phone.

Is there any sub brand from Samsung just like u said? Grand, Fame, Core, Young, etc.. Flooding the market is different than making sub brand topic. For example, Huawei is also flooding the market with so many model but they flooding only by model type / code. Only some model for example Mate series and Nova series. Other is code such as Y as Young, P as Photography. Honor is the only one subbrand.

... moreThats a reason, why Samsung is number one in sales since 2011, even now, by 100mil they sell more than 2-th (Huawei), so Chinese OEM just follow that logic, ok with their sub brends, but point is the same.
Just look in the past Samsung Fame, Core, Young, Grand, Grand Plus, Core Plus, J (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8), then same J, just with another year in the name (J 2015-2016-2017).. In 2019, M series, Ms series, A series, As series.. And trhats why, Samsung sells that much phones, because they have like 50 differente-same phones per year, S and Note aside, thats something else.. So, those Chinese OEM just use same tactics, spamming world number 1 and 2 (China, India) market, because of the sales, more phones, more sub brands per year, more sales..

I don't get the point of doing *this* much diversification when you're gonna sell the same phone under different brandname. WHAT'S THE F***ING POINT FOR CREATIMG CONFUSION AND CHAOS ALL AROUND.
At this rate, I will not be surprised if India gets a massive landfill waste problem by 2025.
And before any Chinese chill comes here to attack because "China sells cheap good stuff", all this cellphones brands pushing devices every weeks on only one country will lead to that. I hope the Indian government is taking steps to prevent that type of problem.
