They say to prevent waste? Umm wont people toss lighting cables in the garbage when they are no longer usable? Also the cable was always inter-changeable so one could easily use a Samsung charger + Lightning cable anyhow or the other way around... =/ (If anything maybe the EU should forbid selling a better charger than the one included with the phone? These 5w chargers gets tossed often...)

Well when comes to innovation apple always stands in the way.
Like they are gods but they are only pawns and prawns.
Dumb people leading even more dumb ompany.
Going against customers and everything else which means pushing the technology and unifying everything else into a peacefull harmony.

LAST WEEK the European Parliament made an amendment....

THIS WEEK, Apple issued a response...

So apparently you only need a week to do the study... And here I am wishing my education would be so easy...

stobs, 26 Jan 2020the usb consortium is a totally fraudulent group that has acted very regressively in the past ... moreThose fragile little pins are in the phone itself in Apple's connector. And when they start to deform from use, or debris gets inside and damages them, Apple gets to charge you their excessive repair prices, or sell you an entire phone instead of just a replacement charge cable. This is all by design.

yeah... thats just apple not wanting to loose out in the 200% plus markup in profit!

the fact that a decent type C charger is actually around the same price (if not cheaper) as a current iPhone Lightning meter long cable - makes me laugh really

By stifling innovation, Apple means it will stifle their ability to force pointless proprietary connectors on customers and then make them buy accessories from them or vendors who have to pay Apple a licensing fee, thereby stifling Apple's capacity to make billions from what is essentially a semi-monopolistic cartel, and in the process stifle Apple's capacity to further contribute to waste and carbon emissions from the production of unnecessary proprietary accessories, which are required for Tim Cook and Apple's employees to make big big bucks and feel superior to everyone.
